Why Did Jesus Come?

Its the Christmas season, and everywhere you look, people are gearing up for
Christmas. Yesterday, I walked into a store and saw they had a countdown of days left until
Christmas. Christmas is a fun time of the year, between the giving of gifts, the getting
gifts, fun lights, and decorations; you have to be a real Scrooge to not enjoy Christmas.
Around this time of the year, many people will be celebrating the birth of Christ, but
have you ever wondered, Why Did Jesus Come? Why did Jesus walk on the earth? He
had everything imaginable in heaven, He was with God, and it does not get any better than
that.
When we look at the mission of Jesus we see that there was a problem that He had
to fix. Each of us had a problem without Jesus. Without the blood of Christ, we were stuck
in our sins, and we were slaves because of that problem. There was no amount of good
works we could do that would make us right with God. Simply put, we needed a savior.
Thankfully, Jesus gave us a new identity. We used to be slaves to sin. Jesus
changed that, and when He did, we were given a hope. When we put on Christ in baptism
(Galatians 3:27), we were considered right with God. We are now identified with Jesus, not
sin. We are now identified with victory, not defeat!
2 Corinthians 5:17 says, Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, He is a new creation. The
old has passed away; behold, the new has come. We have been identified with Christ, but
now we must change the way in which we see ourselves. We often look at our shortcomings
and failures. We focus on those things, rather than focusing on how Jesus sees us. He
sees us as new people. He no longer sees our sins and shortcomings; rather, He looks at
us and sees a new identity, Himself. And now our desire should be to live out that new
identity.
As many focus on the birth of Christ around this time of the year, my challenge for
you is to focus on the birth, and the life of Christ every day! Dont find yourself getting so
caught up in the world around you that you forget your true identity. Jesus came to earth,
lived a humble and lowly life, all for the sake of giving people a standard, a hope, and a
future.
Turn to Jesus, only He can transform your life! Thankfully, we can know God the
Father and we can be made new because of what Jesus did!
With love,
Caleb Taylor
