Carshell NCR Overview

Defect Description

Reported lack of fusion in one


aluminum extrusion profile
manufactured by METRA (Italy). The
defect was discovered during routine
inspection of the Underframe
subassembly.

Defect is not the result of


subassembly fabrication by Hitachi
Rail Italy Reggio Calabria or its subassembly manufacturers.

This extrusion profile is used


exclusively in the construction of the
Underframe. Each subassembly is
constructed of three pieces that are
welded together. Two of the three
pieces utilize the same extrusion
profile with reported defect.

Continue to collect data.


Evaluate the root cause and
corrective action. Confirm through
independent analysis that the
corrective action is acceptable.
Assess impacts to project schedule.
Coordinate with Hitachi, HDOT and
Technical Experts to verify the
corrective actions are implemented
safely and are acceptable to HART.

analysis.
Implement corrective action plan for
manufacturing.
Perform full inspection of all assembled
carshells.
Define corrective action plan for
assembled carshells.
Define plan for testing of Train 1 and 2.
Provide analysis and justification for
moving forward with testing prior to
correction of defect.
Coordinate with HART, HDOT, and HARTs
Technical Experts to provide all necessary
supporting documentation and follow-on
analysis.
