Worksheet Chapter 1
Name: Evan Moore
List and describe three (3) of the six (6) characteristics of a successful
secondary physical education program as discussed in Ch. 1. Be
prepared to share your responses in class.
1. A Positive learning environment exists. I chose this characteristic
because I feel as though it is the most important. In life most people do not
enjoy being negative or listening to someone who is negative. Students will
not want to learn in a classroom environment that is hostile or negative.
The teacher cannot expect the students to be excited if the teacher is not
excited. Another reason is due to feedback because the students will
become less interested if they are swarmed with negativity.
2. Student choice is offered. Making sure that the students know they
have a choice within the lesson is extremely important. This also can be
called teaching by invitation and can be crucial when dealing with students
with different skill levels. If a student is incapable of throwing a football,
then let that students know that he or she is allowed to switch equipment
and use an implement that is more appropriate for them. Without offering
choices in the lesson, the students may feel pressured or nervous if they
keep failing at the task.
