Library Assignment: The Intentional Data Scientist Three Ways
to Get Started
The journal article, The Intentional Data Scientist: Three Ways to get Started appealed to me
for this assignment because career is slowly gravitating towards this field. This item was
extremely informative and carefully charted out the points to consider when embarking down
this road. Data science is a field which relates to multiple branches of knowledge. Through the
use of processes and systems it reviews data in many forms and dissects it in order to gain a
better understanding, and analyse trends to make inferences and predictions.

The article also offered suggested literature and self-study sites which would prove useful when
pursuing a career in the field of data science. Data science is not only focused on the gathering
of data. As it currently stands I am in the Substantive Research zone and me enrolling at the
International College of the Cayman Islands was a first step towards entering the Traditional
Research zone.

Audience Analysis
The presenter must conduct a thorough audience analysis before developing the presentation.
A listing of common audience demographics is shown in the table below.
Audience Profile
Age
Education
Marital status
Group membership
Gender
Ethnic group
Geographic location
Vested interest in topic
Given sufficient time, the presenter will research each of these areas carefully. Additionally,
interviews with program planners and organization leaders will provide insight into the need,
desires, and expectations of the specific audience.
Many successful presenters find it useful to arrive early to the presentation and greet
participants as they enter the meeting room. Often presenters may begin the presentation with
one or two directed questions to understand the profile and demeanor of the audience.
Knowing the audience is an important first step in preparing a successful presentation.
FOUNDATION PROPERTY
The Foundation owns both out-of-state and in-state property. However, the bulk of the
property is located within South Carolina. Properties are acquired either by gift or purchase.
Out-of-State Property
Virtually all the out-of-state property is acquired by gift. Occasionally, a parcel of
undeveloped or developed land will be offered to the Foundation at a bargain price. The
Foundation then sells the property as soon as it is feasible to do so and retains the profit. The
total value of the out-of-state property is $2,145,000.

The total value of the instate property is $34,815,000. More than half of the property is
located in the Coastal region. The next largest concentration is in the Midlands region. The
property values are based on the appraisal price of the acquisition. Most real estate professionals
estimate that the current value is more than double the value shown in the table.
