Project 1:

Examples of multiple genres Ive done throughout the course are the journals,

discussions, blogs, as well as the multimodal project, and other papers Ive completed (Midterm
reflection for example). All of which were done through technology, specially, moodle.
Throughout the semester my writing has gotten much better due to the countless discussions,
blogs, and journals weve done in and out of class. Specifically the peer review sessions we had
only enhanced my writing. Which helped in making things like the multimodal project where I
even created my own memes! Ive never done something like that before, so it was a new and
exciting experience.
-

The research portion of this project was great, because it freshened up my research skills.

My first search for my subject ended up in a large amount of broad results, which didn't really
help all that much. I got the chance to practice and see how much I had to specify my subject if I
wanted relevant results.
-

My critical thinking was sharpened, because I had to analyze a wide variety of sources I

found and see which ones were actually beneficial for my paper, and which ones were a waste of
time. Again, analysis was key here as I was able to skip a lot of deadweight articles. Even once I
had the correct articles, I had to sort through all their information to see which of it had to go
where. Meaning where I could apply it in my essay. Even then, not all the information from my
sources was really all that useful.
-

Revising my work through my rough drafts, for things like the Annotated Bib,

Multimodal Proj., and The Essay required me to carefully analyze what I was saying in these
drafts and what I actually wanted to say in my final. Revising these took many hours, as there
was a lot of information to comb through, and formulate it into coherent ideas. Though, I can say

throughout the semester my reflection has improved. I can catch sentence flow errors, or areas of
lack of focus much easier now. Thanks to all the practice. Furthermore, as for the choices I made,
I can say they naturally improved along with my reflection. Which, overall has made me a better
writer.
- Concerning the SLOs, all of them relate in some way to this project. However, the two which
jump out to me the most are Knowledge of Conventions and Critical Reading. For this project,
knowing the conventions was absolute key to success. Knowing proper grammar, spelling, and
punctuation is really key for any and all essays. And I received plenty of practice with these
through the rough drafts. Another key factor was knowing the conventions for citation and
bibliographic purposes. Since this was mostly a research paper, knowing how to cite your
sources is probably the most important part. In order to avoid plagiarism and copyright issues,
which will obviously affect your grade and performance. On the other hand, critical reading was
incredibly important as well, because youd need to analyze your sources to properly know
which were of use to your paper and which were not. Also, taking that information you get from
your sources and correctly tying it into your paper was crucial.

Project 2: Annotated Bibliography

The annotated bibliography helped refine my research skills, as I hadn't done a research

paper in quite a while. So, I got a chance to relearn all the MLA rules and citation processes
again. Which will surely help for the future, when I have another research paper for college. Not
just citation, but also how well I can find and search for sources. I realized I had to narrow my
searching in order to find relevant sources for minimalism. As I was getting far too general and
simply irrelevant sites. Specifically, sites on advanced minimalism when I only wanted basic

facts. Lastly, this helped with my analysis on sources and which information was relevant to my
subject, and which was not.
-

Concerning the SLOs, Critical Reading and Knowledge of Conventions apply to this

project the most. As you would the skill to critically analyze the information in your sources to
pick and choose the most helpful info for your topic. Then implementing that information would
require you to reflect on your drafts to see if you would need to pull or put more info in your
paper. Conventions of MLA citation and bibliography rules will always be essential to research
papers. As well as the conventions for writing a paper, such as grammar, spelling, and
punctuation.

Project 3: (Multi-modal project)

-

I composed my memo by first analyzing the picture and text, and how they related to

each other. Since I created the memes myself, the picture and text always had a strong correlation
and complemented each other very well. I, then went to explain what my memes message was,
and if there was any correlation to the meme and text. After that, I went on to explain my
rhetorical strategy, meaning whether I chose logos, pathos, or ethos for my meme. Lastly, I did a
final compilation of how everything tied in together to make the meme whole.
-

The SLOs mostly tied to this are Critical Reading and Rhetorical Knowledge. Critical

Reading would be the most significant, because one would need to analyze both the picture and
the text itself in order to understand what the creator is trying to say. Is the creator being sarcastic
in this, or straightforward, or using a metaphor/simile? Being able to read between the lines is
key to understanding any meme. As for Rhetorical Knowledge, the reader would need to

understand that memes are a specific writing style, and are mostly used for sarcastic comments
or jokes.

Overall:
-

For a grade, I believe I should an A. For all of my writing assignments, I believe I

provided decent analysis of the subject being discussed. As well as displayed above average
understanding of the subject. For the class, I enjoyed it. The atmosphere was very calm and I felt
like I could open up and contribute at any time. I relearned some very crucial research skills, as
well as refining my essay writing skills. My house group was very friendly and provided
excellent advice/feedback on the peer reviews.
-

As for the Discussions/Journals/ Responses to Readings, the responses I received were

more than I agree, or Good point. They were very well thought out, and I felt like I was
getting real feedback.

A. I believe the strongest claim I made was that minimalists should be understood
more, as they live a very interesting lifestyle. As for the weakest, that would be in the
Multimodal Project. The meme Just watched into the wild - Yea..Im definitely quitting
school, was the weakest, in my opinion, because I felt like out of all my memes it didnt
make the most sense.
B. That piece would be the meme, Watches Into the Wild - Should I Start
Questioning Society?. This is the most important to me because its the most
controversial out of all the memes I created. Also, I spent the most time thinking of it. It
touches on evaluating societal values and customs, and whether or not we should be
following them, or if they're correct.

C. That piece would be the Proposal, because at the beginning of class, I had a hard
time thinking of a topic, simply due to my initial lack of understanding of the assignment
at the time. Other than that, I didnt really have much trouble with the other assignments.
D. Concerning this, I dont think I learned to apply from texts into my life yet. I
haven;t thought that deeply about these assignments or the topics. However, for
connection between texts, my rough and final drafts would be good examples. In these I
had to look back at the rough draft and see where my flaws in sentence structure, flow,
grammar, and focus, etc were. Then take that any implement them into the final draft.
E. For Project 1, my process was to brainstorm a topic, research that topic multiple
times, then after looking through all the results I had gotten, choose several sources
which fit my topic. Afterwards formulate the information in the sources into a paper, then
analyze the paper for errors in loss of focus, sentence issues, grammar, and spelling. This
process is what I take for every research project, so it's what Im most used to. I believe
its the most efficient for writing a research paper, as throughout my school career almost
all teachers have recommended it. Moving on for project 2. My process was to analyze
each source and verify if it fit my topics needs. This meant reading through every source,
and determining what information was relevant and which were not. For all annotated
bibs. Ive done through my school career, this is pretty much the most efficient way to go
about it. I havent done any other process and dont see a reason to. Moving on to project
3. The process for this project was to determine how I was going to make my memes
relate to my topic. Then choose the background picture and determine if it related enough
to the text I would write, and to the subject. Finally, create the meme and check if
everything synergized. Again, I believe this was the most efficient way to go about
creating a meme for this project.

F. Most of the new information I discovered was about the minimalists and how they
live their life. Specifically, they grow their own food, find they own sources of
entertainment, are usually isolated, and dont want to be held down by social customs and
values.
A. Concerning my participation, I believe I participated with my group more than enough, as
well as in class. I fell short in completing all of my moodle assignments, Though, in the
participation department, I believe I did well.
B. While I didnt do all I could to succeed, concerning moodle assignments, I believe that was
the only place I fell short. Everywhere else I tried my best to succeed.
For this reflection, based on the chart, I think I deserve an A.
