PROCEDURE
Introduction (5 min.):

Introduction: Students can gather around the carpet and I will explain the instructions. I will show the stude
how to measure from the top to bottom of items, and remind them that they are expected to measure the leng
not the width.

Expectations: Students need to finish their estimations before they can use rulers. They also are expected to
erase their estimates! They cannot begin the scavenger hunt until they have completed the first two pages an
shown me.
Body ( min.):
Activity #1: Class Discussion & Questions: We will begin on the carpet going over the instructions and
expectations.

Activity #2: Christmas Worksheet: Students must complete their worksheet, by estimating and measuring th
objects on the first two pages.

Activity #3: Scavenger Hunt: Once students have completed first two pages, they can go around the classro
looking for Christmas objects, making estimates and measurements and recording them into their worksheet

Closure (5 min.): Most students should be finishing up by now, giving them a warning to begin to put everything on m
and asking whether they enjoyed measuring objects.

Formative Assessments: For an activity like this, formative assessments would be made through observation
circulating the classroom, as well as correcting their work.
Modifications: Assistance for the students with IPPs- extra help at the horseshoe table for those who are
struggling.

Sponge Activity: Once students have 3 items, they can go look for more, or color the objects in their worksh
