Project Rationale and Description

A Project Background
Sitio Mabilog is located at one of the mountaintop of Bamban, Tarlac. This community is one of the
partnered communities of Office of Community Development and of NSTP Office. The place is so peaceful but
the environment is quite too warm because there were only few trees only in that sitio therefore, the sun is
directly towards there. The people on Sitio Mabilog are very friendly and they wanted to learn. Last year, our
organizations committee head for Community Development had chosen this Sitio and had a good impact on the
community. Since our organization is focusing on environmental views, the members of the organization
gathered up to help the community to have greener area and many trees to shade on.
B Project Objectives

This project aims to promote environmental awareness in the community by conducting an environmental
education in the community. By the end of the activity, the community should be able to appreciate the
environment by attaining the following:
- Understand the importance of environment and proper management
- Demonstrate the proper method of tree planting
- Enumerate ways on how to preserve the environment learned from the short lessons and activity
III

Project Management/ Mechanisms

A Preparatory Phase
The project was planned because of the current issues of our environment. Because of technology, our nature is
slowly destroyed. A tree planting project and environmental education are feasible because many communities
do not have the adequate green environment and they should be properly educated on how the green
environment can be nurtured and preserved. A small lecture on how to manage our environment well and how
the seedlings can be nurtured will also planned. The seedlings will be bought days prior to the project
implemented.

B Implementation Phase
The organization will prepare a mini-lecture on how to manage well our environment and how the seedlings can
be nurtured through a demonstration. Then the participants and beneficiaries will team up to plant a seedling in
the area assigned. Selected officers will monitor and supervise the activity in cases of questions and needed
help.
C Post-implementation Phase
i Assessment/Evaluation
A Community Development Activity Evaluation Form will be used to evaluate the activity. Participants and
beneficiaries will answer the same evaluation form, only that the beneficiaries form is answered in Filipino
so that most beneficiaries can understand.
ii Documentation
Pictures will be taken as proof that the participants did the activity. A narrative account of the participants
and beneficiaries experiences will also be documented as another form of evaluation.
iii Reporting

A Terminal and Expense report will be submitted to the UST-SIMBAHAYAN Community Development
Office two weeks after the implementation of the project.

Sustainability
The community should be expected to achieve all the objectives aimed for the project. The community, as well
as the participants from the university involved, should be able to appreciate the importance of preserving the

environment especially that they are living in an area where trees are scarce. Indicators such as inquisitiveness
and active participation are some important indicators of a good sustainability among the beneficiaries as well
as the students.
