The Department of Special Programs and Services (DSPS) at Orange Lutheran High School is designed to

meet the unique educational needs of our diverse student body. This Program serves students with a variety
of educational disabilities and medical diagnoses.
Academic assistance is based on educational/psychological assessments and their resulting
recommendations, as well as previous educational information, placement exams, and information
provided by teachers, parents, and the student. These evaluations must be current, within three years, and
are required for initial and continued enrollment in the DSPS Program.
The Department of Special Programs and Services (DSPS) is divided into two levels of academic support.
Level One - Comprehensive Student Services
This level of support is for a student who has an identified disability that requires additional support outside

student/teacher ratio (reduced class size) to support individuals with disabilities. Collaboratively, teachers
and DSPS instructors devise specific strategies and teaching that enable students to academically thrive.
The curriculum in these courses aligns with all English and Social Studies classes, but appropriate
accommodations are established to facilitate learning. These accommodations include, but are not limited
to: extended time on tests, exams given orally, supplying word banks, assignment reminders written for
reference in the classroom and online, consistent communication between home and school, preferential
seating, and the use of technology such as laptops, E-readers, and smart pens.
