The Journey to the White House
On November 8, 2016 the United States of America made one of its biggest decisions,
whos going to run our country for the next four years? When we think of an authority figure, we
often think of a tall, white, male who is affluent. A man who is able to take charge. In this years
presidential election, we elected just that person. Even though many disagree with his out there
policies, Donald Trump is the spitting image of a typical American authority figure.
Donald John Trump was born on June 13, 1964 in New York to parents Mary Anne
MacLeod and Fred Trump. Trump got his head start in the business world at Ivy League school,
University of Pennsylvania, where he studied at the Wharton School of Finance. This was only
just the beginning of his road to success. After graduating, Donald went on to follow in his
fathers footsteps as a real estate developer. Trump is now one of the largest and known in his
field.
As a young boy, Trump was ambitious and when home would help his father with his
company Elizabeth Trump and Son. The company focused on making apartment buildings in
Queens, New York, a middle-income area. Later, Donald convinced his father to obtain loans in
order to expand the company. Soon after graduation, Fred gave the company over to his son.
Donald moved the company to Manhattan and worked on larger projects to raise profits.
Trump rose to fame in 1971 when he was commissioned on projects in Manhattan and by
1980 he built the Grand Hyatt which resulted in him becoming the most well-known developer.

Years later he began to broaden his business and became a reality TV star on NBCs The
Apprentice. The show took normal people and tasked them with planning events by testing their
business skills. The prize? A year running one of his companies with a $250,000 starting
contract.
Our country is hoping that he will use these business skills to help our country. Even
though he has no background in politics, we trust him because of all his fame. He knows this and
capitalized his campaign on those grounds. In the article The Real Reason Donald Trump is so
Rich by Max Ehrenfreund, Trump told Rolling Stone, "I'm running for office in a country that's
essentially bankrupt, and it needs a successful businessman," (Ehrenfreund). His success makes
him appeal to the voters as a man who can fix our countrys economy; after all he did major in
economics.
However, Trump isnt as successful as he claims to be. Former Wall Street Journalist,
Nick Barsky, wrote of an experience he had with Trump in an article Trump, the Bad, Bad
Businessman. Barsky explains he got an insider tip about Trump that, The greatest scoop of my
journalism career started at a poker tableMr. Trump was on the brink of financial ruin
(Barsky). Trump had been borrowing more money than he had, because his businesses were
failing He then had to negotiate with banks to avoid bankruptcy. Barsky pointed out that, Trump
has always been able to pinpoint his opponents weaknesses and use them to his advantage.
There is no denying that he is a man who is able to get what he wants. The man who
we elected to govern our nation for the next four years. On Friday, January 20, 2017 Donald J.
Trump will be sworn in as the president of the United States of America.

Trumps Political Policies
Trumps policies are what helped him into presidency, Although a lot of people didnt
agree with him he still had a few great political policies. Donald trump believes in cutting costs
to lower debut in the United States. Trump believes he can cut debt by ...selling government
assets, including government buildings, land and energy resources. He claims this could bring in
$16tn.(Zoe Thomas BBC Business reporter, New York). Mr. Trump proposed that we could be
reducing the cost of medicare by creating more jobs which he believes could save the us
government billions of dollars, along with cutting waste, and fraud.
Another political policy Donald trump has made is to reduce taxes from 35% to 15%. He
plans on doing this by persuading creditors to accept anything less than the full amount. Trump
asked whether The United States needed to pay its debts in full, or whether he could negotiate a
partial repayment (Binyamin Appelbaum). They say creditors would not accept anything less
the 100 cents on the dollar, even with Donalds deal making prowess. Donald trump told CNBC
how concerned he was about higher interest rates and the cost of serving federal debts.
The next political policy trump has is to be able balance budget and economy. By him
balancing our budget and economy he will pull this country slowly out of debt. Although he
said a country is different and he didn't mean to renegotiate the U.S. debt, only to "refinance"
existing debt. Of course, refinancing debt saves money only when rates go down, which raises
the question of what the Fed should do with rates. (Donald Trump on Budget & Economy). Of

course it will take time to raise the country out of debt, but with trump plan refinance debt he
could possibly pull us out.
One policy that Donald trump is against is abortion. Donald does not support the killing
of ones child that is still in its mother wound. Donald trump sent a letter to the American antiabortion stating all of what he would do. The letter begins with Trumps announcement that he
has enlisted longtime anti-abortion leader Marjorie Dannenfelser, SBA List president, as the
leader of his campaigns Pro-Life Coalition. (Rebecca Traister). He then begins to attack
Hillary Clinton on the commitment to reproductive cycle rights. Trump writes, not only
supports abortion on-demand for any reason, but wants to force the taxpayers to pay for
abortions by repealing the bi-partisan Hyde Amendment. (Rebecca Traister).
Donald trump next political policy is the deportation of undocumented illegal immigrants
with criminal records. Donald trump vowed to deport 2 to 3 million illegal immigrants who have
a criminal record as soon as possible. Trump said in his interview with CBS 60 minutes What
we are going to do is get the people that are criminal and have criminal records, gang members,
drug dealers, we have a lot of these peopleprobably two million, it could be even three million
we are getting them out of our country or we are going to incarcerate... (Katie Reilly). Donald
trump plans on building a wall along the southern border to keep illegal immigrants from
entering the country. He quotes "I will build a great wall -- and nobody builds walls better than
me, believe me --and I'll build them very inexpensively. I will build a great, great wall on our
southern border, and I will make Mexico pay for that wall. Mark my words." (Carlo

Girls Cant Do That
When Hillary Clinton was 13 years old, she wrote a letter to NASA asking how she could
become an astronaut, with which NASA replied, We dont take girls. Instead, she became a
lawyer, politician, U.S senator, secretary of state, the First Lady, and the first female presidential
nominee for a major party.
Clinton has been politically ambitions since as young as high school. At 13, she helped
canvass Chicagos South Side after witnessing electoral fraud at the 1960 presidential election.
She then volunteered to campaign for Barry Goldwater, the Republican candidate for the 1964
presidential election. In high school, she won vice president in her student election junior year,
but lost for presidency senior year to two boys who told her, you are really stupid if you think a
girl can be elected president."
Graduating in the top 5 percent of her class, she moved onto Wellesley college, where she
majored in political science. She graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts and departmental
honors in political science. After that, she entered Yale Law School, where she served on the Yale
Review of Law and Social Actions editorial board and developed an interest in family law and
issues affecting children. She began dating Bill Clinton, fellow law student, in 71 and agreed to
marry him in 75. Following their marriage, she joined the Rose Law Firm in Arkansas, where
she became the first woman to be made a full partner. After Bill was elected governor of

Arkansas in 78, Hillary continued to pursue her political career, becoming the First Lady of
Arkansas. She held that title for 12 years.
When her husband first became a candidate for the 1992 Democratic presidential
nomination, she also gained national attention. Her remarks of pursuing a career when she
couldve easily chosen the housewife role were widely criticized. When Bill was sworn into
office January of 1993, she became the First Lady; the first one to have had a postgraduate
degree and to have her own professional career leading up to her first time entering the White
House. She sat with all of the men at the innermost vetting appointments to the new
administration. She was regarded as the most empowered First Lady after Eleanor Roosevelt,
and some critics even called her the central role in matters of public policy inappropriate. She
called her and her husband co-presidents and people often referred to the couple as Billary.
Eight years after Bills presidential term ended, Hillary served as a U.S Senator from
New York and on five Senate committees with nine subcommittee assignments. She sponsored
31 pieces of legislation. She resigned from the Senate on January 21, 2009 to become the 67th
United States Secretary of State for the Obama Administration, overseeing the Foreign Policy of
Obama.
No matter what anyone says, Hillary Clintons political career is extensive, being one of
the most accomplished and experienced people to ever run for President. On November 8th,
2016, she lost the presidential election to Donald Trump, but won the popular vote. In her first
remarks after the loss, she called on her supporters to keep fighting; to keep fighting for womens
rights, for economic fairness and environmental protection, and most importantly, for what we
believe in.

Hillary Clinton's Policy
Sunday April 12th, 2015 Hillary announced her campaign for the 2016 presidential
election. Her goal in campaigning is to move closer to a world where equality exists. With this
she launched a campaign website (https://www.hillaryclinton.com/). Here Clinton expressed her
intent of policy. I have pulled a list to name a few: close education achievement gap, protect
immigrants rights to keep their family together, and end the epidemic of gun violence.
Clintons drive to reach equality is captured on June 8th, 2016 when she said if we stand
with each other now, we can build a future where no one is left out or left behind, and everyone
can share in the promise of America- which is big enough for everyone, not to be reserved for a
few. This idea of appealing to everyone and not just a reserved few has been a goal of Hillarys
her whole life, in fact, Hillary was offered the opportunity to take a high paying job in New York
City only to turn it down so she could work for the Childrens Defense Fund in Bedford
Massachusetts. (Fighting for Children and Families) This job specifically helped the lack of
educational support for children with learning disabilities. Wright, June 2016. Clinton has more
specific views of education that can be checked out at https://edexcellence.net/articles/hillaryclinton-quotes-about-education.
Education is not the only thing Clinton intends to reform; she has listened diligently to
the wishes of people who are forced to face this reality. Most people were not expecting the

thorough response of action given. Clinton went on to tell she has big plans to the families who
are at risk of being torn apart due to deportation. If Congress continues to refuse to act, as
president I would do everything possible under the law to go even further, said Clinton at Las
Vegas Rancho High School. Clinton plans to take Barack Obama's deportation relief policies
even farther; she went as far as stating she plans to expand on them as well. Huffington posts.
Clinton also has strong emotions towards gun violence. She and many others can agree
there have been too many lives lost due to carelessness of these weapons and who holds them.
Clinton states these stories cannot be ones that just provoke our emotions. They must lead us to
action. They must motivate every one of us to take on these issues, reforming police practices
and making it as hard as possible where people who get guns who shouldnt have them in the
first place, Clinton said. We owe it to the families of young men, like Laquan McDonald, and
other names we know all too well.(korecki, policito). Plans to prevent gun violence include
background checks on gun owners as well as stacked restrictions. Stacked restriction include the
denial of gun ownership if you are restricted to fly, have a history of gun violence, or are being
watched for suspected terrorist links.
Overall, Hillary has well rounded her intent of reform while reaching an overall goal of a
more united country. Equality is necessary in a successful community. Her plan shows her
passion with her drive to put children on an equal level of education, keep families together, keep
gun violence to an all-time low, and many more.
