Stereotype private institutions

Universities in Bangladesh are mainly categorized into three different types: public (government
owned and subsidized), Private universities (private sector owned universities), and international
(operated and funded by international organizations). Bangladeshi universities are affiliated with
the University Grants Commission, a commission created according to the Presidential order of
the Government of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh. All the public universities were
established before 1990s, and the private universities were established after that. There are
myths and false remarks that the people of Bangladesh believe. There comes the way of
Stereotyping.
If you look elsewhere in the world, private universities are demanding the university rankings,
MIT, HARVARD, STANFORD, YALE-all are private universities. Unfortunately, a lot of
misplaced resentment comes in the way of private universities in Bangladesh. The most common
insult to them is that they are not smart enough to get into public universities. They by conveying
so, indicating to the picture that only public university students have the right to study and others
are buying certificates. Few surveyed people even conveyed that public universities do not have
enough space for all 2.94 lac rejected garbage. That means that the person who did not make the
cut just by a thin margin was not competent enough and that persons dream of studying a
particular field should die.
The surveyed people claim that the entrance exam of the private universities explains all. There
are 4000 applicants and they are taking at least 1000 out of them. Their mind set is like that the
private university students are from rich families and they do not know how to mingle and cope
with the general population of the country. They do not need good jobs or vast knowledge to get
a life. They lack hunger for success as they are already rich and profound. Another very common
response of people about private universities involves drug abuse or illicit activities caused by
wayward life styles. One of the honorable Professor from University Of Dhaka-Sociology
department said, private university students do not have proper campuses nor an adequate
devised entrance examination. They lack diversity and strangle connectivity. One of them said
private universities treat students like industrial outputs without offering them any space for
creativity. The surveyed people came up with the fact that missing students are founded to be

getting involved in terrorism. They said recent involvement of NORTH SOUTH UNIVERSITY
& BRAC UNIVERSITY students created horror in their mind. They said though NSU had many
allegations before with blogger Bishwajit murder, but they waived them as con-incidental. But
after all the recent involvements that took place in HOLI ARTISAN RESTAURANT in Gulshan
and in Sholakia, things are not in avoidable situation. They said if students from best private
universities get involved in terrorism, we are scare to think how students from other 80 private
universities are affiliated with. They might be very easy to brain wash. Many parents claimed Ill
let my child uneducated but Ill not let him attend private universities. A very sad story shared by
a student of NSU. He said it was the second day of EID. He was out with his friend and while
driving, a yellow police stopped him in entrance of Gulshan and told him to show his documents.
In process he asked him what u do?. In response he replied Im a university student. He inquired
by asking which university?. Then he replied, NORTH SOUTH UNIVERSITY. The police
officer winked and said, You are a student of that terrorist factory?. He said he never imagined
that he have to face such things in life. He is 11th semester student which is his 4th year. He said
where before people used to regard him and used to see him with respect, now he is being abused
for the same thing. This is the picture of private university students recently.
