Four Generations of Family Farming

Since 1930s

Urban sprawl from London, ON has forced the

relocation of Stanton Farms to Ilderton, ON.

Stanton Farms
New State-of-the-Art Dairy Facility

Commenced Operation Fall 2006

Stanton Farms
New State-of-the-Art Dairy Facility

The double 30 Herringbone WestfaliaSurge computerized Milking Parlour

can process 300 cows/hour. Cows are milked 3 times/day

Stanton Farms
New State-of-the-Art Dairy Facility

Our unique Instant Chiller chills the milk to 2C

before entering the 30,000L Storage Tanks.

Stanton Farms
New State-of-the-Art Dairy Facility

A tunnel under the milking pit separates the milk pulsators, meters and other
equipment from the milking area decreasing noise impact.

Stanton Farms
New State-of-the-Art Dairy Facility

A Special Needs Facility is adjacent to the Main Office and Milking Parlour for
springing, calving, fresh, dry or problem cows.
Special pen areas have been designed to accommodate a pot load (35 head)
of cattle for future marketing of large numbers of animals.

Stanton Farms
New State-of-the-Art Dairy Facility

The installation of electronic cattle ankle bracelets and sort gates allow for
electronic herd management and cattle to be easily separated as needed.

Stanton Farms
New State-of-the-Art Dairy Facility

Disinfecting chemicals are automatically dispensed from

bulk containers located in a separate, secure room for
safety and security purposes.

Stanton Farms
New State-of-the-Art Dairy Facility

800 cows are housed in a 102ft x 1070ft free-stall barn.

An additional 800 Cow Barn will commence construction in Spring 2007.

Stanton Farms
New State-of-the-Art Dairy Facility

The Calf Barn can hold up to 268 calves in individual pens and
provides for a separate area to pasteurize calf colostrum on-site.

Stanton Farms
New State-of-the-Art Dairy Facility

Small computer equipped, staff offices are located in each building to ensure all health,
calving, breeding data, etc. can be entered quickly and readily available.

New State-of-the-Art Dairy Facility

Feed stuffs are stored in five bunker silos.

Cows are fed one Totally Mixed Ration (TMR) of corn silage, haylage, cannery waste
(sweet corn husks), soybean meal, corn screenings a concentrate mix containing
minerals and vitamins and dry hay.

Farming in the 21st Century.

Responsible manure management through green energy technology.

One of the most exciting features of the new Stanton Farms

facility is a planned Anaerobic Digester to treat all of the farms
manure and waste water and to generate green energy.

Stanton Farms
Anaerobic Digester Project

Stanton Farms preferred AD technology is the

Andigen Induced Blanket Reactor (IBR) System.

Stanton Farms
Anaerobic Digester Project

Already constructed is the Manure Separating Facility and two,

4M gallon manure lagoons.

Stanton Farms
Anaerobic Digester Project
Rationale for choosing the Andigen IBR System:
Unique Induced Blanket Reactor (IBR) design makes it possible to reduce
retention times to as low as 5 days while still maintaining excellent solids
destruction levels and exceptional gas production.
This is accomplished by increasing the bacterial concentration within the
reactor and by directing the incoming waste stream through a vertical column of
bacteria-rich material.
By increasing the exposure of incoming organic solids to bacteria, an
accelerated digestion process is achieved.

Stanton Farms
Anaerobic Digester Project
Rationale for choosing the Andigen IBR System:
The IBR system is comprised of a series of independent, above ground tanks
(or cells). Each of the cells is over 30ft high.
IBR systems are modular and scalable, allowing the digester to grow
incrementally with need and without major alterations to the existing facility.
This high rate digester results in a lower material storage requirement.
Combined with a vertical column design, the IRB foot print is much smaller than
required by other ADs.

Stanton Farms
Anaerobic Digester Project

Initial energy production capacity = 300 kW/h

Average power requirement for almost 1/3 of the residences of the Town of Ilderton, ON
Plans call for the addition of off-farm waste material to increase production capacity, with
excess energy to be sold to the provincial grid system.

Stanton Farms
Anaerobic Digester Project

Rationale for choosing the Andigen IBR System:

Using above-ground, small diameter vessels, the IBR offers greater modularity
than alternative in-ground systems or very large complete mix tanks.
Completed IBR tanks are delivered to the user for fast and simple installation.
When maintenance is required, a single tank can be taken off-line without
affecting the overall system operation.

Were more than just milk production Stanton Farms Breeding & Embryo Production.

Stanton Farms is front and centre in todays Holstein business.

Stanton Farms strong emphasis on index and diverse cow families has lead to
consistently topping Canadas Lifetime Profit Index (LPI), as well as the US Cow Total
Performance Index (CTPI).
Stanton homebred bulls like Stress, More, Money, Marshall and Steward also
consistently top the Canadian LPI charts.
