Master of Engineering (M. Eng.

) Program in
Electrical Engineering
The program leading to the degree of Master of Engineering in EE provides an opportunity for
the students to pursue advanced studies in a particular field of major interest.
Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) program is designed for students who want to pursue their
electrical engineering education beyond the undergraduate level but are looking for an alternative
to a thesis-based research program.
The Master of Engineering program consists of a total of 33 credit hours of course work with the
option of completing a supervised project. Students are free to choose among a number of EE &
Non-EE courses to complete the program.
The program consists of a total of 33 credit hours of course work: a minimum of 9 credit hours of
letter-graded courses in the departments technical specialty areas to provide depth, a minimum of
6 credit hours of letter-grade courses in other area(s) within EE in order to provide breadth, a
minimum of 3 and a maximum of 9 credit hours of technical non-EE (letter-grade) courses, 3
credit hours of non-technical course (business-related), and 3 credit hours of project work (P/F).
Possible areas of concentration include:

Power/Energy Systems
Control Systems
Communications
Signal Processing
Electromagnetics
Electronics
Digital Systems

Admission Requirements
Applicants to the M. Eng. program in EE must hold a B.S degree in electrical engineering or
related fields from an accredited university, with a GPA not less than 2.5 / 4.00 or equivalent, in
addition to the general requirements set by the Deanship of Graduate Studies at KFUPM.

The program consists of 33 credit hours satisfying the following requirements:

A minimum of 9 credit hours of letter-grade courses in one area of EE (the area of

specialization of the student).

A minimum of 6 credit hours of letter-grade courses in other area(s) within EE.
A minimum of 3 and a maximum of 9 credit hours of technical non-EE (letter-grade)

courses.
3 credit hours of non-technical course (business-related)
3 credit hours of project work (P/F).

The condition of letter-grade courses excludes the counting of PASS/FAIL courses towards the
minimum requirements in any of the categories. Technical non-EE courses must be taken from
the following colleges: College of Engineering Sciences & Applied Engineering, College of
Sciences, College of Computer Science & Engineering, and College of Petroleum Engineering &
Geosciences. Exceptions require the approval of the EE department.
This program is open only for non-scholarship students. Students on scholarship from KFUPM
are not allowed to enroll in this program.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

Q1. I am a part-time student of EE currently enrolled in M.Sc. program. Am I eligible to
change to M.Eng. program?
A1: Yes. Any student with a genuine interest in pursuing M.Eng. program is eligible.
Q2: I have already registered EE 610 (Master Thesis) course. Is there any chance that I can
move to M.Eng. program?
A2: Yes. Any student who is already enrolled for EE 610 can still change to M.Eng. program
provided that he accepts NF (fail) grade in EE 610 course.
Q3: What is the procedure of migrating to the new M.Eng. program?

A3: Migrating to the new M.Eng. program requires initiating change of major request via
your portal account. Also, it requires a declaration from the student to accept a fail NF
grade in EE 610 course.
