Abstract

The impact of the implementation of solar hybrid system which was installed at department of
Electrical/Electronics Engineering Osun State College of technology, Esa-Oke is analyzed in this
paper. This work models a 3.0 KVA grid connected solar power supply system using a
combination of Photovoltaic (PV) array, charge controller, inverter, battery bank, an A.C load
and installation accessories. The system works complementarily to capture the best feature of the
energy resources and provide the grid-connected location with the highest electricity network
with good quality and reliability. The paper looked into the users experiences, technical and the
economical aspects of the system and found that alternative sources from renewable energy
offers better electricity in providing power supply to such location than the old and conventional
diesel generator system. The technology gives benefit and impact to the students and teachers by
creating more comfortable lifestyle and a conducive learning environment.

Abstract

Access to electricity in rural area in Nigeria and other developing African countries is low
because historically power utilities employ a centralized grid system of electrification that is
expensive and would take decades to reach the majority in these areas thus opening opportunity
to decentralized solutions. An off grid solar PV powered energy kiosk is one of the possible
models of electrification which is an alternative in the task of bringing energy to isolated
communities using solar PV which is a proved technology. The project seeks to scale up an
inclusive business model based on a unique technology and building solution for modular energy
supply, offering sustainable, reliable and affordable electricity products and services through
solar-powered kiosks to rural off-grid rural areas in Nigeria. A 1000W solar PV panel, a 24V,
200AH storage battery, 45A-pwm charge controller, a 2.0KVA DC-AC inverter, AC & DC power
outlets and LED lighting are to be employed. The target is to avail electricity for basic domestic
use and enterprises in rural communities vis-a vis rural community leaning and information
dissemination, office application (access to internet in rural areas, hair cutting and clipping salon
