Lancashire

Site Overview
The site is divided into areas loosely defined by function and
each serving a particular purpose and group of users.

Main Building
The engine of activity sits centrally, in line with the
historical rail tracks. A hard standing at either end
of the building allows for the movement of large
equipment and objects to be brought through its
central space.

Entrance / Outdoor Display

Users enter from the south, crossing the road and
approaching the building over the route previously
taken by tracks feeding the coal wharf. This space
allows for the outdoor display of completed hacks.

Sports / Activities
The concreted floor from the demolished former
chicken processing plant has been adapted to become a multi-use activity area. Primary uses are
robot combat and roller derby practice.

Small-Scale Agriculture
This area is set aside for co-operative work on the
growing of crops and livestock. Accessed from the
Steamyards bio lab, it provides a chance to practice ideas of permacuture and aquaculture.

Wildlife Garden
This space is left as a resource for visiting wildlife and an unstructured place for visitors to relax
amongst the self seeded growth.

Site Access
Although the site is enclosed on three sides, there is easy and
clear access to all parts of the Steamyard. Deepdale Road,
to the west of the site is a main road and will be the probable
arrival route of most visitors.

Car Parkng
The southern part of the rail yard was located south
of Deepdale Street. This area, which formerly took
coal deliveries is currently empty parking space
from a now-closed branch of Halfords.

Pedestrian Access

Users cross from the car park, over the old rail
route and into the buildings entrance foyer.

Vehicle / Delivery
Access is provided for delivery to the building and
for the movement of temporary equipment onto
and off of the site.

Track Bed
The former track bed links the Steamyard building
to the access road. Its position allows for rail access
to the site in the case of renwal of the line for freight
or, as has been proposed, a new tram system.

Emergency Access

In case of an emergency, or access being required

to the northern part of the site, there is an entrance
from Lincoln Street.
