Will people born in the Sixties get a pension when they retire?
According to a recent survey on the future of State pensions, Britains pensions time bomb will finally explode in
2027. This means that a generation of Britons born in the Sixties face a race against time to save for their golden
years. Some have just 15 years to accumulate sufficient savings. Others will be forced to work into their 70s.
Financial advisers have scrutinised population and saving habits and found that a lethal combination of factors
will crash in 2027. The gigantic shock will arrive once the baby-boomers born in the Fifties and Sixties stop working.
It will seriously affect those now in their late 40s and early 50s as well as their grown-up children, wholl be left
with a colossal bill.
Disaster might happen in 2027 when the number of people alive over the age of 80 will have increased from
three million to 4.7million. The working-age population will have increased, but a significant proportion will be
between 30 and 44 and struggling with student debts, and housing and family costs. Will they be able to face a hard
tax rise in order to pay for State pensions?
Those with nothing set aside face a monumental task. For example, a 50-year-old needs to save 13,500 a year
for the next 15 years to create a pension worth an annual 15,000, according to Standard Life. The trouble is that
many couples are finding it really arduous to save for their retirement. In fact, just one in five men aged between 45
and 54 are on the way of a comfortable retirement.
As life expectancy rises, many of us can expect 45 years in employment followed by 30 years of retirement,
possibly living on until we're in our nineties. So, how can you make sure you won't be rather short of money for three
whole decades? Simple answer: plan effectively. What follows is an example for a person who is now in their 40s.
Key points:

If you haven't started saving, do something about it!

Keep building your individual savings account (ISA).

Your earnings should be peaking - dedicate some to a pension.

But if you haven't already started an ISA or a personal private pension plan, it's not too late. It will just require a
much bigger effort. This is a very crucial time for your retirement planning, and it's imperative that you act now. Your
earnings are likely to be approaching their highest during this decade, and you should now be on top of your debts.
All in all, you should be in a good position to start dedicating some real money towards planning for the future.
It is quite advisable to make the most of pay rises and bonuses to increase your retirement savings, rather than
simply increasing your expenditure each time. This is the time to take your retirement planning seriously, and that
means having a target retirement age and understanding what your lifestyle will look like in retirement. You might not
be able to paint an accurate picture of your retirement just yet, but you should be thinking about it in broad terms
and making sure your financial plans will reach your expected goal.
