Lesson: Handwriting Without Tears


Subject: Writing
Materials:
Handwriting Without Tears Workbook
Chalk board with chalk, sponge and paper towel
Letter building pieces and board
Magnet drawing board with letter piece magnets
Pencil with finger grip
Objective:
Today you will be learning about the letter ___! By the end of the lesson you
will be able to write the letter ___ on your own! (B.W. will be working on the
letter T and S.S. will be working on the letter C).
Procedure:
1. Build the Letter

2. Trace the Letter

Using the letter building pieces and board, model


for student how to build the letter.
Describe the letter:
o For letter T, talk about how it has a long
straight line that goes from top to bottom
and a short line that goes from left to right at
the top.
o For letter C, talk about how it is a continuous
curved line that opens to the right.
Have student trace the letter with their finger and
say the letter name.
Using the Magnet Drawing board and letter piece
magnets, model stamping the letter on the board.
Let student stamp the letter.
Have student use the magnets as a guide to draw
the letter.

3. Wet, Dry, Try

Draw the letter on the chalk board


Have students trace the letter with a wet sponge
Have students trace the letter with a rolled up
paper towel to "dry" it.

4. Workbook
Activity

Have students complete their workbook activity


using a pencil with a finger grip.

Students will practice tracing the learned letter


independently
