Unit Objective
The unit objective is that TSW introduce students to each state and students should be able to
identify/ locate each state on the map.
TSW have prior knowledge about PREZI from former lessons and the 50 Sates
located in North America hat was learned in the previous lesson of singing each state
in alphabetical order; students should know many of the state shapes, where they are
located, or their capitals and symbols.

TSW learn about all of the states of United States of North America and students will
be able to identify each state capital and symbols that represent the particular state.
TSW learn about each state and become more familiar with the states capital, symbol,
what it is close by, how it looks, the shape of it, its neighbor, and any other cool fact
that they want others to know.
Students will create a 6 slide PREZI pretention full of pictures called title What State
is that Shape including information of their favorite State with 90% accuracy on a 14 scale rubric.

Student Participation: TSW learn about all of the states of United States of North
America and students will be able to identify each state capital and symbols that
represent the particular state. Also TSW identify what it is close by, how it looks, the
shape of it, and etc. TSW then Students create a PREZI pretention of their favorite
State and the last slide will include why the student choose the state of their choice

Materials
1. The Tennessee recap the 50 states song to get the students attention as an ice

breaker.
2. The worksheet will be used to evaluate each student on the 50 States located in
North America.
The link between the assessment(s) and the objectives is that TSW be able to
identify each of the 50 States of North America and the most important things about
it. Since the students will have a chance to identify their favorite State and complete
a PREZI presentation on it, they should enjoy making the Prezi even more.
Assessment Accommodations for this lesson (e.g. IEP, 504 students, gifted, ESL,
other). All students can listen to the song as it is played aloud. Students who are
hearing impaired or vision impaired can look at the song as it plays on the
whiteboard.

Background and Rationale

TSW be able to identify each of the 50 states of United States of North America on a
map
TSS have prior knowledge about the 50 Sates that was learned in the previous
lesson of singing each state in alphabetical order; even if they do not know their
shapes, where they are located, or their capitals and symbols.

Lesson Plan

The previous lesson relates by identifying the knowing each States name and locate
where it could possible be located on a map.
Eventually, the students will make their own huge North America Map and upload
that to their PREZI presentation as well.

Procedures and Timeline


Introduction

1. Recap the 50 states song to get the students attention as an icebreaker.

2. The worksheet will be given to each student. TSW then use already cut out pieces of

each State name to glue the names on wear the students think that they belong. (If a
state is in the wrong place, I will redirect them back to the video on my iPad as I walk
around the classroom) 30mins.
3. Students have already been introduced to Prezi but I will help them to login their
previous account and get started. I will answer any needed questions to get students
on the right track. 10mins.
4. TTW gain students attention and direct them to what they are about to create.

5. Students will then start to create their Prezi with their favorite state. There will be a

picture of the state on the first slide in North America. The next slide will incorporate
pictures of states capital, symbol, what it is close by, how it looks, the shape of it, its
neighbor, and any other cool fact that they want others to know. The last slide will be
why the students choose their favorite state. During this time, students will use their
computer to look up information about their favorite state. 30mins.

NEXT DAY
6. Students will start where they left off the next day. 45mins.

7. Students will present their presentation. 45mins.

Closure
TSW have the chance to complete their PREZI presentations at home with guardians or the
begging of class the next day with myself in order to present their PREZI to the class later
that school day with my assistance.
Next few days to come, students will learn about South America, Europe,
Africa, Australia, Asia, using maps, globes, and other technologies. They will also
learn these continents states/cities, just like they did with the continent of North
America. Once mastered those, TSW move on to learning about the major Oceans.

Modifications
