Data Service Center School Choice Application Data for the 2016/2017 School Year

These data show the number of applications submitted for the 2016/2017 school year. In other words, these applications were submitted starting in
November 2015 for the following school year. Please note that a parent can (and typically does) submit multiple applications for one child. The application is
structured so that if a parents applies to a school district that has multiple schools, that parent may select their 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice. When applying to a
charter school or a district with just one school at that grade level, they would create one application with only a first choice. These data include choice
applications to all DE LEAs except Indian River, Smyrna, Lake Forest, Cape Henlopen, Laurel, Sussex Tech, Positive Outcomes and Thomas Edison Charter and
those LEAs who accepted paper choice applications, but chose not to enter them into the DSC system. The table below depicts the number of choice
application submitted by residents of each school district. For example, even though Smyrna school district does not utilize the DSC system, it still had 708
applications filed by Smyrna residents to schools that did utilize the online choice portal. (Further interpretation and guidance can be found on page 5). In
summary, the data listed below indicates the number of applications submitted NOT the number of residents applying for choice.

Choice Applications by Feeder (Resident District)

The following 16 pages (pages 6 to 21) depict the number of of choice applications submitted to school districts and
charters that utilized the Data Service Center online system for the 2016-2017 school year. The choice applications are
organized with a page illustrating each of the districts of residence.

As a reminder, all Delaware districts and charters utilized the DSC online choice portal for the 2016-2017 school year
except for Indian River, Smyrna, Lake Forest, Cape Henlopen, Laurel, Sussex Tech, Positive Outcomes and Thomas Edison
Charter. For this reason, no counts are depicted for residents who applied to these schools. Note that these schools are
not available in the listing of schools on the right-hand side of each chart.

A page is devoted to each of the 16 traditional public school districts in Delaware. Each page shows the number of
applications submitted by residents of that particular school district. Additionally, the charts depict what school those
residents applied to. Please note that these charts indicate the total number of applications submitted. Residents may
apply to more than one school by submitting multiple applications. Therefore, it is important to remember that these
counts refer to the number of applications submitted and not the number of residents submitting applications.

As an example, please look at page 6. This page depicts the choice applications submitted via the DSC system by residents
of Appoquinimink School District. The pink box depicts the 949 choice applications submitted by Appoquinimink residents
who wished to choice into MOT charter school. The orange box depicts the 510 Appoquinimink residents who wished to
choice into another Appoquinimink school (through intradistrict choice). One resident who submitted a choice application
for both MOT Charter and another Appoquinimink school would account for one application in the pink box and one
application in the orange box.
