Bonilla-Silva, E. (2006). Racism without racists: Color-blind racism and the

persistence of racial inequality in the United States. Rowman & Littlefield
Publishers

This book give an insight into what both whites and black
community believe about the word racism. It is presented in the
book that in our current era there is no such thing as racism, but
instead we now have color-blind racism. According to Bonilla
Silva This is the way racism is viewed now, the way people saw as
racism 50 years ago is not what we see as racism anymore. The
way I will utilize this book in my paper is by describing the way
racism has changed from what it was years ago. I will also discuss
the way the change has affected more people because not only is
racism targeting blacks but now it is targeting many other races,
religions and sexes.

Dwyer, C. E., Stevens, D., Sullivan, J. L. and Allen, B. (2009), Racism, Sexism,
and Candidate Evaluations in the 2008 U.S. Presidential Election.
Analyses of Social Issues and Public Policy, Vol 9 pg. 223240.

This article analyzes how sexism and racism helped shape the
2008 presidential election. For this article the author decide to
conduct a national survey that focused on the way modern sexism
and modern racism affected the way Americans voted on the
elections. According to the survey it was determined that indeed
this factor did contribute to the decision making of Americans, after
further inspecting the survey the author determined that people
who are known to be racist indeed disliked Obama and did not
share the same views as him. The way I will utilize this article for
my paper is by showing the stats and how sexism and mostly
racism affected the 2008 elections.

Hannan, A. (1987). Racism, Politics and the Curriculum. British Journal of

Sociology of Education, Vol 8(2), Pg.119-133.

Hannans article gives an insight on to how racism is affecting the

education of different multicultural societies. It explains how politics
are affecting the ways in which politics the education curriculum is
being changed. The whole purpose of this article is to provide
schools with curricular provision which would allow for social and
economic development of multicultural societies. The way I plan use
this article in my paper is as an example of how politics are

affecting different races and societies in education. I will also

explain how this could maybe affect the politics later and because
of it, could be the start to a new racist era.

Jayasuriya, L. (1998). Opinion: Old Racism, New Racism. AQ: Australian

Quarterly, Vol 70(5), pg. 4-5.
This article will address the way old racism and new racism
differentiate form each other. On this article, it is stated that
because of laws and changes on the government what we knew as
racism back in the days is now considered something horrible and
no one would ever try to repeat those actions. It also says that
reason that New racism was created was because now racism is not
about cultural superiority but cultural differences. The way I plan to
utilize this is by demonstrating how after the 2008 elections racism
as we knew it before changed. People began to discriminate you not
only by your skin color but also by the way you act, what you
believe in and many other things.

Philpot, T. Shaw, D. McGowen, Ernest. (2009) Winning the Race: Black voter
Turnout in the 2008 Presidential Election, Vol. 73 No.5, p.995-1022

This authors talk about the extremely high African American voter
turnout on the 2008 presidential election and how this affected the
presidential election. They talk about the fact that maybe the high
amounts of African American turnout was not because of the
presidential candidate and maybe it was something else. Using data
from previous years they are trying to prove that the real reason for
this turnout was actually because of the way the political campaigns
handled and made an effort to bring more African American voters
to vote. The way I will be using this on my paper is by explaining
how political campaigns actually tried to bring in other races and
ethnicities to participate on the election. I will also discuss how this
campaign help change the way African Americans are viewed.

Steele, J. (2009). Election 2008: A Mortal Blow to the Politics of Racism? New
Labor Forum, 18(1), 8-17

This article talks about the 2008 presidential elections and how
people believe that the election of the first black president was a
Step to the end of racism, but this is not actually true. Steele
believes that the fact that Obama is black did not actually
contribute at all with the fact that he won the presidential race. He
believes that the real reason that Obama won is because people

were scared to elect another republican candidate after what Bush

did to the countrys economy. This article is relevant to my paper
because I will be discussing the 2008 election and how it has
contributed to the growth of racism in America. I will also address
the fact that indeed Obama was not chosen because he was of a
different race but because people did not want republicans as
presidents anymore.

This video explains the way racism has evolutionized from the
beginning of the years and has changed to what it is now. The video
gives examples of how we have recorded throughout history books
and other sources the way people have always been racist. From
one of the first examples which was Charles Darwin theory of
evolution to more recent ones. The way I will be using this video to
help my paper is by giving examples of how racism has changed
overtime. I will use examples given in this video and I will break
them down to demonstrate the difference between racism back
then and now.
