PURPOSE
Despite music has begun to be applied in medical, educational, sports and other
aspects. The researchers developed a patient music therapy, childrens early music
enlightenment education, the music incentive methods to optimize people's lives. But
just a few articles describe how listening music relieves college students stress. My
research addresses this important gap by examining how listening music relieves
college students stress. I also consider about creating a music digital platform to help
college students relieve stress and study energetically.

INTRODUCTION
Research indicates that college students are constantly influenced by multiple
stressors from different aspects of their lives and the society. Life and academic
stress often generate difficulties and impact college students mental health.Guo,
Yuh-Jen ; Wang, Shu-Ching ; Johnson, Veronica, 2011
Associated Press and mtvU conducted a survey in 2008 on college students stress
at many colleges throughout the United States. The survey found that four out of
ten college students report they feel stressed often. One out of five says they feel
stressed most of the time. One out of four students report experiencing daily stress
and one in ten report thoughts of suicide (Kirsten Schuder, 2015)
Music can act as a powerful sensory stimulus, engaging the brain in retraining
neural and behavioral functions that can be applied to non-musical context in
everyday life, such as therapeutic needs. Yehuda,2011) Based on the
enormous pressure faced by college students, listening to music can
effectively reduce the pressureEileen, Lew, Polong2014

stress

Relieve stress: Bell, Robbins (2007) and Pike (2013) both demonstrated that art products can
eliminate the negative emotions, music is also a part of them, and the music of the human brain
cortex stimulation is obvious. Listening to music can effectively relieve stress.
Improve the immune function: Eileen, Lew, Polong(2014) has proven that music therapy can
produce ameliorative effects upon immune systems that have been negatively affected by stress.
Treat disease: The use of music therapy has been closely associated with alleviating stress,
anxiety, pain, and a myriad of other physical and/or mental health diseases or disorders. Music
therapy can be an effective treatment that prevents stress from contributing to the etiology of
disease.
Improve the sport function: Bartolomei2015described that athletes frequently use music to
enhance their motivation during workouts.
Concentrate: HuangShih(2011claimed studies have found background music influences
human behavior, and this study attempts to understand how background music and listener
fondness for types of music affects worker concentration.
Relax: Lai (2004) has suggested that listening to at least ten minutes of soothing music has a
relaxing effect.
Study energetically: Labbe, Schmidt, Babin, & Pharr (2007) have proven that music is an effective
medium to help college students reduce the effects of negative emotional states.
Strengthen the memory: Blum (2013) researched the role of certain shared properties of music
and speech, particularly rhythm and repetition, which likely contribute to the development of
memory.
Resist to fatigue: Guo,Ren, Wang, Zhu(2015) suggested listening to the relaxing music during a
cognitive task may make people feel less mentally fatigued and maintain high productivity.
Reduce depression: Siedliecki(2006) suggested nurses can teach patients how to use music to
reduce depression and promote feelings of power.

New offering
My research of study is about effects of listening music on the person and how to relieve college
students stress, but just a few articles describe this exigence. From this literature review, this
project consider one helpful research that how to create a music digital platform that help
student study energetically and relieve students stress. Music effects can effectively alleviate the
pressure of the college students. Although must may not work immediately, but this is a longterm plan with the four years of college career of college students. No matter when facing stress
and anxiety, college students only need to open the music digital platform, and figure out the
questionnaire according to the student to make it is concluded that the types of emotionsthe
answers can be tailored to the unique music database for effective relaxation, and then, college
students may relieve stress and study energetically, make many perfect researches.
