Objective
The objective of this experiment is to enable students to gain experience with voltage
and current measurements.

Procedure
A. Series Circuit:
1) Construct the circuit as shown in Figure 2.1.
2) Record the nominal and measured resistors values in Table 2.1.
3) Turn on the DC power supply and adjust the dial on the power supply to 10.0 V
reading.
4) Record the following measured parameters in Table 2.2:
a) Measure the DC voltage, Vs with DMM by connecting the DMM probes in
parallel with power supply terminals.
b) Measure the voltage across R1 and voltage across R2.
c) Measure current through R1 and R2 by connecting the DMM probes in
series to each resistor.
d) Calculate the theoretical voltage and current values and determine the
percentage difference between measured and theoretical values.

Figure 2.1
B. Parallel Circuit:
1) Construct the circuit as shown in Figure 2.2.
2) Record the nominal and measured resistors values in Table 2.3.
3) Turn on the DC power supply and adjust the dial on the power supply to 10.0 V
reading.
4) Record the following measured parameters in Table 2.4:

a) Measure the DC voltage, Vs with DMM by connecting the DMM probes in

parallel with power supply terminals.
b) Measure the voltage across R1 and voltage across R2.
c) Measure current through R1 and R2 by connecting the DMM probes in
series to each resistor.
d) Calculate the theoretical voltage and current values and determine the
percentage difference between measured and theoretical values.

Figure 2.2
C. Series and Parallel Circuit:
1) Construct the circuit as shown in Figure 2.3.
2) Record the nominal and measured resistors values in Table 2.5.
3) Turn on the DC power supply and adjust the dial on the power supply to 10.0 V
reading.
4) Record the following measured parameters in Table 2.6:
a) Measure the DC voltage, Vs with DMM by connecting the DMM probes in
parallel with power supply terminals.
b) Measure the voltage across R1, voltage across R2 and voltage across R3.
c) Measure current through R1, R2 and R3 by connecting the DMM probes in
series to each resistor.
d) Calculate the theoretical voltage and current values and determine the
percentage difference between measured and theoretical values.
