This year I have made lots of new friends and met up with old ones after moving to back to Dubbo
from the Central Coast.
This year has been an exciting year for me; I have been involved with Clontarf. Clontarf is a
mentoring, sports, learning and engagement program for young Aboriginal high school boys. We go
on camps throughout the year and on day trips around the area. Every Wednesday and Friday they
go around picking us up on the bus starting from 5am and then bring us to school. Firstly we warm
up and then we train for football. After training we have showers and eat breakfast together and
clean up. There are around 40 students who come to these sessions.
When we go away to play football there are two teams; year 7 and 8 make up one team and year 9
and 10 make up the other. Ive scored a couple of tries and Im very strong at tackling. We play
against other Clontarf teams from different towns. We have also played against the Dubbo College
South Campus Clontarf teams and won.

ADDISON
Im 8 years old. My mums name is Yasmin and

Im hoping to go to Dubbo for my birthday so
we can go to Flipout. I love to jump on the

We went to a place about half an hour out from Newcastle. I wanted to go because I could
meet new people and do fun things. My team colour was blue and there were about 23 all
up in my team. There were 120 students at the camp.
On Monday we went push bike riding along the beach. It was
about 6kms. Next we went on the giant swing which is my
favourite activity. Thats when you go up as high as a two story
house and people pull you up really high then let you go and
you swing back and forwards. After dinner we played
games.
Tuesday we went rock climbing and fishing. Then after
lunch we made damper then went on the Mud Hole
course. That night was supermarkets. Thats when you
get fake money and you run pretend shops and try to make the most
money.
Wednesday we went kayaking and it was cold. I got
very wet. Some people were swimming but I didnt because it was too
cold. In the afternoon we did archery. After dinner we had some
questions games (Trivia).
On some of the days we had to do duties for the
meals where we had to serve the food and clean
up after dinner.
On Thursday there was a High ropes course. In the afternoon we got to pick our
favourite activity and I picked the giant swing again. After dinner we had dancing
(Disco). Then we said goodbye to year 12 students because it was their last year.
There were a lot of year 12 people this
year.
On Friday we left camp at 9am.
I really want to go back to Deaf Camp again next year!

Anne Smith 15 years. Dubbo School of Distance Education

Hi, my name is Anne Smith and I live in Nyngan with my mum, dad, brother and his fianc, and all of
my animals. I have three horses, two goats, seventeen dogs, including the three house dogs, and
two cats.
I am in Year 9 at the DSODE. Even though I live in town, I do home schooling because my mum and I
are often away either showing dogs, looking after my nan and pop, who live at Newcastle and have
no one else to look after them, or delivering puppies to their new owners. My mum is a registered
dog breeder. She breeds Labradors and Golden Retrievers, and sells them all over Australia. They
are sold as companion dogs, or Seeing Eye Dogs, but they have also been sold as bomb detective
dogs for the Australian Defence Force, horse stud leaders, disabled support dogs and general pets.
Dogs and horses are my life I dont really do anything else. I love all animals, but dogs and horses
are my favourite. I have been showing dogs since I was six years old. I show my own dogs and many
other people also get me to show theirs. Dog Showing is my sport. I love everything about it;
meeting new people, showing different dogs and being able to travel around the country.
Whenever I have time off school work I am riding my horse, Sparky. Sparky is 10 years old and I love
him to bits. He is my best friend. I love teaching Sparky new tricks, such as barrel racing, flag racing
and pole bending, and I hope that one day he will be good enough to enter into gymkhanas.
I am not your average girly girl. I am not interested in fashion and make-up and I am not up to date
with the latest celebrity news, gossip, TV shows, music, movies and general popular culture. I am
quite content with my own company and just spending time with my animals.
When I leave school I would love to work in the Mounted Police Force or Border Security sniffer
dogs. Knowing that this industry requires a good Maths and English mark helps motivate me to do
my school work. Otherwise, I am not very interested in doing my school work! I am the worlds best
procrastinator something my Hearing Support Teacher would attest to. She has to work very hard
to get me to do my work! Thank you Marcia for being so understanding and putting up with me.

If I was magic I would like to sing like Delta.
The most important thing in the world is
Mum.
When I grow up I would like to visit Delta.

Angus Young
I am turning 7 in January and I cant wait to go into year one. I hope my
friend Linc will be in my class. My speech and Auslan are really coming along
now. I enjoy watching Sally and Possum with my class. They all try and
spell out the words in Auslan too. I try and imitate each new sign I am
shown.
This year I went to my first Deaf Sports Day in Dubbo. I ran really well at
my sports day at school it was so much fun.
I am getting very tall, Im catching up to mum so she says that Im getting
too tall! My grandma is shorter than my mum so Ill soon be as tall as her!!!
Santa might bring me a bike for Christmas. I like riding and playing games
outside with my brothers Ryan (who is also in this book) and Finn (who is
hearing). I like anything that is Star Wars.

Ryan Young

I am going to big school next
year. It will be fun and I will go
to school in a bus.

I still love books! I talk

about the pictures and
I can point things out.
At preschool I like to play
beside other children. I
especially like to play shops,
arrange furniture and wooden
people in the dolls house and
pretend to cook in the kitchen.
If you are looking for me
outside, I will be on the big
slide, in the sandpit or on the
climbing equipment.

Zoey Bulkeley @
Lithgow Public
School
My name is Zoey Bulkeley and I am
a year 6 student at Lithgow Public
School. I'm almost 12 and next year
I will be in year 7. I will be going to
Lithgow High School next year.
Well, on the days when I am not at
school, they are taken up with lots
of different activities.
On Monday afternoons, I play the clarinet with the school band. We play lots of different
tunes, including the themes to Jurassic Park, Star Wars, the song Happy, Rolling in the
deep by Adele and many others. At the moment, my favourite tune to play is the theme
music to Pirates of the Caribbean. The tempo is fast but as long as you practice a lot (I
practice at least 15 minutes everyday!) it is easy to play.
On Tuesday afternoons, I go to gymnastics at the Lithgow PCYC. I am currently at the silver
level, which means I get to do different floor routines, uneven bars, vault and the beam. We
use flat mats (no foam pit at this centre). I like the beam the best because I get to show off
how flexible I am. I am not a big fan of the uneven bars because the lower bar is too low for
me and I find it very, very difficult to tuck my legs in when I am gliding from one bar to the
next.
On Wednesday afternoons, I train for my weekend sport field hockey. I am currently
playing for the under 13 girls team with Lithgow Workies Blue. I like to play as an inner
because you get to run with the ball for longer periods of time and you get to defend and
attack. I have scored 5 goals this year. I also played for the Western Region as a centre
forward and was the only person from Lithgow who travelled to Albury to play in the regional
competition. We played well and managed to come 4th.
On Thursday nights, I go to dancing classes. This is a jazz dancing class and next year I will
start contemporary dancing. I am in the senior dance group and we perform a routine to
Jessica Mauboys I believe.
On Friday night, I spend the night drawing and relaxing.
On Saturday, I play hockey. By the time this is finished, I hang out with my friends and
chillax.
My dream job is to be a screen-writer. I don't like scary movies as I get nightmares from
them. I really like watching sad movies and my dream is to win an academy award for my
writing.
I love to read. My favourite author is Taran Matharu. I am currently reading the novice and
it is about two best friends, Fletcher and Elk, who live in a cavern near Bear Tree Mountain
and they have secret, mysterious magical items that they keep in a special box but they have
lost it and the story is focused on them trying to find it. However, the bad guys are trying to
get it!
Thanks for reading my life story!!!

My name is Will and I go to South Bathurst Public School. It is

my last year in Primary School and next year I will go to Kelso
High School.
This year we went on the Canberra Trip for 2 nights and 3
days. We visited Australian Institute of Sport, Questacon, The
War Memorial, Telstra Tower, Parliament House and The
Australian Museum. I had not been to the Institute of Sport
before and I thought it was just amazing because there were
lots of interactive sporting activities for children.
My dad bought me a motor bike this year
and I am still learning how to ride it. I am
continuing my mountain bike riding and
would like to go into some competitions.
I have really enjoyed watching the Olympics
in Rio this year. My favourite thing to watch
was the Athletics, especially the strength
sports like discus and shotput. I made it to District in shotput
and am going to do some training to see if I can improve for
next year. I was amazed watching the 4 by 100m relay, the
Jamaican runners were very fast and it meant that Usain Bolt
won his 9th Olympic Gold Medal.

My name is Aleesha Dee

and I am 9 years old. I go to
school at Carenne and I am
in Mrs Cafes class.
I love watching Barbie
movies
and
I
like
completing
my
name
matching card that has
pictures of Barbie on it.
I like playing a game where
I have to match a shape to
the right hole in the
container. Miss Folley and I play this at the end of every lesson and then I
know its time to finish.
I like listening to songs and I like lining up the animals that live in Old
McDonalds Farm.

Lauren Fitzpatrick
Lithgow Public
Year 1

Im in Mrs Kennedys class. I have filled up

two books with stories I have written.
I love reading books and have started to
read chapter books. I am reading an
information book on Lizards.
I love the pictures I draw because they are
colourful, neat and beautiful.
We use iPads for many different activities in our class. We write stories, draw
pictures, take photos of our work and even give commands to a machine we
built from Lego.
Here are two stories I have written.
On Friday it was snowing. All my friends were
looking out the window at the snow. Ash and
Dad picked us up from school. When we got
home we made snowballs. My hands got cold.
Liam threw snowballs at me and I didnt like it so
I went inside. Out the window I saw a mermaid.
She was standing on the snow catching the
snow.
Mum, Anne and me are at the beach. We are
jumping on the trampoline. We get tired so we
had a break on the rocks. All my friends came to
the beach. We went in the water with our
floaties and we went under the water. We got out of the water and went home.

Nicholas Hagar
Kindergarten
This year I started at Wallerawang School. I do
my work and I am learning lots of interesting
things. In the playground I like to play with my
friends in the sandpit and we dig big holes by
ourselves.

I play PS3 at home and my favourite game is Army Sniper. I have two dogs
and a cat. The dogs names are Tank and Sophie. I like to pat and play with
my dogs. When they see me they get excited. I kick a basketball for my dogs
and they chase it. My cats name is Snowy. It is brown, white and silver strips.
It was born when I was born. We play with her toy mouse. In the mornings I
put her outside so she can look around our backyard.
When it snowed outside I went in the snow with my family. We built a
snowman. He had rock eyes, rock nose, rock teeth and stick arms.

Dad

I like to ride my dirt bike

with my dad. We go
around the paddocks. He
does wheelies. When I go
over jumps I lift up my
front wheel and my whole
bike flips but then I land
on both wheels.

Me

Hello, my name is Axel and I am living in Bathurst this year but I am actually
from Cowra. My Grandpa has a farm at Cowra and I love working on the farm.
I go to Elizabeth Chifley Preschool. I
like making pictures and things for my
mum and dad when I go there.
I have a brother called Finn and a
sister called Faith. They are both
bigger than me. On the weekend, I
got a long bus toy from Big W and my
sister got some new Lego.
My Mum told me that if I can learn all
my letters and sounds then I can get a John Deere tractor for my birthday
when I turn 6. I LOVE tractors, especially John Deere tractors.
At my preschool last week, we had some Olympic Games. We had to follow
an obstacle course and climb walls and do a running race. It was lots of fun
and I loved it! At the end I received a certificate and my very own medal. I was
very proud.

Iydian Josh
I am 4
I am using my voice more and more. I like to
tell my friends about my family. I am also
asking questions about things I see.
I am very independent and I always try an
activity on my own first but if Im having
trouble I ask for help.
This is my brother Jonty. He is my best friend.
When Im playing with him I giggle and laugh
the whole time.
We love sharing a bike at preschool. We zoom around the bike track
faster than everybody else because I like to push. We also dance on
the stage and play ball together.
I spend a lot of time in the play kitchen making cakes, toast and
cooking delicious meals on the stove. I still love dolls and I often
spend time cuddling and caring for them.

I love my long hair. Mum is very clever creating new styles each day.

Peter Lawson
My name is Peter Lawson. I am 15 years old and I
go to Bathurst High School. I have two sisters. One
is 17 years old and my little sister is 2 years
younger than me. My older sister is currently
working at Pizza Hut in Bathurst. Unfortunately,
she doesnt give me any free pizzas!
I have lots and lots of pets at my house. I have 5
dogs, 2 cats and 1 rabbit. Toby, Missy, Lady, Rosie and Guntar are the
dogs. Rosie is Ladys puppy. These dogs live outside in the yard. Toby is
the biggest dog. Lady is the smallest dog but she bosses all the other dogs
around. Toby is the oldest dog, we have had him since he was a puppy and
he is only 5 years old. He is able to jump tall fences (especially if a strange
cat meows or tries to get into the yard!).
Mittens and the other cat whose name I have forgotten have free reign of
the house. These cats live with my oldest sister. Mittens is very pretty
(according to my family). Once, when my Mum was pulling into the
driveway, she opened the car door and Mittens jumped into the car and
urinated on my Mums lap!!!
The rabbit belongs to my big sister. It is female and I dont have anything
to do with it. I dont like rabbits.
If I could go anywhere on a holiday, I would go to Melbourne. I would like to
go there to visit my family. I was born in a town outside of Melbourne.
I follow the West Tigers in the NRL and follow the Richmond Tigers in the
AFL. I just decided when I was a little boy (when I was 4) to go for the
teams that had tigers as their mascot.
I like P.E, Visual Arts, Woodwork, metal work, cooking and doing
experiments in Science. I like doing things with my hands.
I want to join the Australian Army when I leave school. I would like to it
because I like my country and you have the chance to travel around
Australia and go overseas.
I have been to Deaf Camp twice. It is amazing. I enjoyed having free time
because it gave me an opportunity to make new friends and to hang out
with other Deaf and hard of hearing teenagers my age. I really enjoyed
canoeing and archery. I only managed to hit the target once because it was
very windy and my arrows were blown off target. You could see the arrow
shaking as it was flying through the air!

Hannah Lea @ Kelso High

School
Hello my name is Hannah Lea and I'm in year 10
attending Kelso High School. My current subjects are
Maths, English, Science, History, PDHPE, Agriculture,
Food Technology and Textiles.
Earlier this year I did work experience for one week
at the Stewart Street Vet in Bathurst. I had so much
fun. I saw quite a few de-sexings and lump removals.
I got to see two c-sections and go on quite a few
house calls with one of the vets. When I leave school I hope to be a vet nurse. I was
going to choose animal studies as a TAFE course next year but it may not be running.
So now instead of jumping straight into the veterinary nursing course when I leave
school, I now have to do the animal studies course for about 12 months first.

Earlier this year in July, I went to Port Douglas in

North Queensland as a surprise trip for my Dad's
50th. I had so much fun up there. It was much
warmer than down here in Bathurst. We went
snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef and it was
amazing. We also took the scenic train from Cairns
up to Kuranda where we went to the Kuranda Koala
Gardens and the bird world. While I was at the
Koala gardens, I got to hold the most gorgeous
koala ever. Her name was Lana. She was really
heavy and her claws dug into me but she was really
cute. On the way to Kuranda, we went past a really
beautiful waterfall.

I am studying for my Ls is test, which I will hopefully take on my birthday on the 4th
of October. I'm not really good at studying so this is proving to be really difficult for
me but I know some stuff because the first topic for this year in PDHPE was drivers
education. I also know some stuff by observing my parents and my brothers driving
but my brothers aren't really the best people to be learning from. I am hoping that
my older brother and his girlfriend come down to visit at Christmas this year. He is in
the army and he drives trucks.
Next year, in January, I am going on the biggest cruise ship that comes to Australia. It
is called the ovation of the sea. It has a skydive simulation, a flow rider which is like a
surfing simulator, bumper cars and a robotic bar! We will be going to Hobart on this
ship. We will be on the ship for 6 days and 5 nights.

Hi, my name is Connor and Im in my first year in high school at Blayney High School
this year. Its been very exciting this year because we have lots of new subjects and
lots of new teachers.
The best subjects so far have been D & T Technology because you get to use
computers most of the time, which I like to do; and I also have enjoyed Science
because we get to do experiments. PE is another good subject because we get to try
out lots of new sports. I really look forward to subjects where I get to create things
and also were there is lots of action.
In most of the other subjects I think have too
much work to do and I dont like them as
much. Miss Folley just calls me Mr Excuses
because she says I always have an excuse
about why I havent done my work or why
I think its too difficult.
Other than school,
I enjoy playing
football.
This
Sunday we have
our grand final
coming up, so
we have to
work really
hard
and
give 110%! Its going to be very tiring and I am
going to be exhausted when I come to school next week!
(Miss Folley will probably tell me thats just an excuse!)
Some of the things weve learnt about at school this year are: Climate, Ancient Egypt,
Forces & Friction, Fractions and Percentages, and Heroes and Villians.

Corey Mark
Bathurst High
Year 8

I started roller hockey this year. You need roller blades, shin pads, mouth
guard, helmet and an ice hockey stick and puck. The goals are small like ice
hockey. We play every Tuesday night from 7.00pm 8.00pm. There are 4
people on each team. It is fun, you make new friends and when people fall over
we all have a laugh.
Next year for Year 9 I was able to choose some subjects I wanted to study. I
chose Woodwork, Metalwork and First Aid and Sports Coaching. I like
Woodwork and Metalwork because you design, measure materials and make
things. I think we will make a stool in woodwork next year. I like to do the
practical but not the theory. The sports subject includes fitness, coaching and
helping when someone is hurt.
In the next holidays I am going to a big
party with friends. It is someones
birthday and we are going camping at
Lake Lyell and staying one night. I have
my own swag and my friend is bringing all
the food. We hope to use the Aqua Blitz
and Im taking my home made fishing rod.
Me
next
holiday
s

I have used the Aqua Blitz before with my brother Isaac

on a rainy day. He pushed me in the water. It was
freezing. It felt like 20C. It was really hard to get back
on because the sides are high above the water so you need
help.

Hi, my name is Lochie and I go to Bathurst Public School. At school I like to play football and
soccer. I have been learning about flipping, sliding and turning shapes in Maths.
We have our school concert soon so I have been practising my dance with my class. We are
doing an African dance and we have to dress up in a costume. I think my Mum will like to
watch the dance. Ive sung her the song, but Im not showing her the dance moves. She has
to come and watch us perform to find out about them!
This year, the Olympic Games and being held in Rio. Australian women and men have won 4
gold medals so far and Australia is in second place in the medal tally. I am watching some of
it on TV and I cheer for the Australian teams. I have even been watching it in the mornings
before school when I am supposed to be getting dressed! Whoops!
When I go with Miss Folley to practise listening and learning, we play a game I like called
Once Upon a Time where we have to look at a card for a couple of seconds and then try
and remember the picture to answer questions about the card. Its a bit tricky sometimes
but I love playing it!
When Im not at school, I like to play soccer with my
Mum and even football but sometimes I beat my
Mum!
On the weekends I just sit on a chair and watch my
videos or I play my xbox. Sometimes I dont even go
outside! It can get pretty cold in Bathurst so I like
staying where it is warm.

Across
1. My favourite drink, a
thick vanilla

7. An event in the water that I love

My name is Jock and I play for the Blayney Bears Under 11s side and my position is fullback. Since Ive written a page in Good
Vibrations for a few years now, I decided to give you some clues about my favourite things, instead of just telling you what
they are!

I am in Kindergarten this year. I am in Ms

Murphys class. In our class we have been
learning how to write sentences and learning
to read. I have learnt how to sound out words
and I am learning how to use expression to
make my reading sound interesting.
I have some homework to do for school to help
me learn sounds and letters. I also practice my
reading at home.
We had a pirate day at our school in Term 2,
and I got to dress up as a pirate. I loved it! I
had a hook, a sword, a hat and a parrot sitting

Tony Hawk skating game.
I love eating hot chips and drinking chocolate milkshakes.
I would have them everyday if I could!
I love playing games with my ISTH. I always beat Mr

Jenga together. However, it always falls down. Sometimes
I take out the wrong block; other times Mr Roberts
accidentally knocks it over.
On the weekends, I enjoy hanging out with my younger
brother and sister. I also like to strum my ukulele.
I have just started to shave! I am a man now. I want to
grow a big, bushy beard!!!

Hello my name is Taylor Smith and I have just turned

13! I go to school at Carenne and I am in Mr
Woodwards class this year. I also work with Miss
Folley and Mrs Hallstrom.
We have had lots of fun in my classroom this year.
Every Friday we get to cook a new recipe and then
we get to eat it. We have a book that we glue all the
ingredients and steps in to make the recipe. I
REALLY like cooking and tasting all the yummy things we make.
I also really like making things. I like craft and I like cutting and gluing. Last
week we made some really cute pictures. I made a baby giraffe. It was really
cute!

I also have a baby doll that I have

named Baby Taylor. I like
looking after her and cuddling her
to keep her safe.

Im in a soccer team and its called Workies Black. We

play on Saturday at different times and we train on
Wednesday from 4.00pm to 5.00pm. At training we run
heaps so we can get lots of goals but we have only 1 goal
this season. I play with my niece, Lilly and there is
another Lily. I like to play with Angie because she passes
me the ball.

Carnivale is a special day that my school celebrates each year. We do activities

in class about a country. We are learning about Egypt this year. We decorate
our room and hallway with information we have learnt and art work.
On the day we dress up and our parents come to school to watch the parade.
Mr Wolffs dresses up and during the parade is silly. We cook food from our
country and share it in class. We walk around the school and look at the other
classes work.

Amelia
Hi! Im Amelia!
I am three years old. I am having a fun year at the childcare centre. In our room
we have played with pretend passports and some countries and their cultures; at
the doctors and medical people; a kitchen; the seasons; a farm; a jungle; being
superheroes; mini-beasts and so much more. We are very busy and we have lots to
do. At the moment we have a bakery; pharaohs; pyramids and mummies and a
castle with a moat and throne. I dressed as Captain America for our superhero
dress up day. I enjoy puzzles and listening games. I can read the numerals up to 6.
My ISTH brings some games to play called Spotty Dogs and Insey Winsey Spider. I
like it when my teacher reads me books with the props and we dress up for nursery
rhymes. Some books we have read are Who Sank the Boat?, Hattie and the Fox
but I didnt like this one, and Where is the Green Sheep? I enjoy songs and music.

run over by a car. Our kittens names are Trevor and Sparkles but Trevor is a girl and

before finding out their gender. Their names got mixed up and are now stuck. Im holding
Trevor in the photo.
My best friend this year is Jayden. He is my best friend because he makes me laugh and he is
funny! When I went over to his place he jokes about his mum and his mum calls out
Jayden! When NBN internet comes out we will play Grand Theft Auto online together.
I have started and enjoy riding my bike. I like to cycle with my Dad. Its a great sensation
when I can go faster than walking.
My family got a very special treat from my Nan this year; we went on a cruise of the South
Pacific Islands. Mum and I liked to go out onto the balcony and look out across the ocean. It
was relaxing. I tried lots of different foods like a huge chocolate donut; it was the size of a
bread and butter plate! I ate it all and I didnt get a tummy ache. I had a ham and cheese
omelette for lunch. Most mornings I ate a hot breakfast of bacon and egg. I tried the tabasco
sauce and it was HOT!!! My mouth was burning for a long time afterwards.
I still like to paint and to do Art in class. At school this term Im enjoying the Mens Shed so I

language and I had no idea how to sign but when I came back I
started learning Auslan.

Hey everyone again, well its my last year writing my page, it has been a very stressful,
happy and sad year for me. I turned 18 this year. My brother had his first child and I am
about to finish school this term which is kind of sad but also a bit good, but I am going
to miss my friends at school. The year has been fun and sad because of all the goodbyes
that I have had to do.
I had a fun time at my last year at Deaf Camp. I had to say emotional goodbyes to many
of my good friends which was so sad. Everyone was so emotional since it was their last
year as well. I have made so many amazing good friends over the years. I am going to
miss every single one of them so much: Liam, Nikita, Selina, Jayden, Matt, Chris,
Darcy and many more amazing friends. Im going to miss the activities, the night games
and of course the nice amazing people that I have met.
I need to thank all of the people who have watched me grow up since I was little. I want
to thank my mum for being the most amazing, beautiful and kind woman who I have
ever met and who has been there for me since day one - love you mum! I also want to
thank my dads for being there for me and giving me life. I also want to thank all of the
Hearing teachers and Miss Fullich for helping me over the years. I also want to thank
most importantly Kathy Hayward for watching me grow up, teach me over the years
and who has always been there for me even when I was cranky. She has become a part
of my family which I am so grateful for. She has taught me so much and helped me
accept my hearing loss, which I always felt alone, but it was her that has helped me
through it. Thank you Kathy, I wouldnt be here if it wasnt for you.
Thank you for reading my very last page

In January I celebrated my 18 Birthday. I had a wonderful surprise party with my family and friends!

for all her support to help me complete my assignments and for her just being there for me, whenever I needed her at
