equ
Time Required
This lesson requires 45 minutes.
Goals
The goal of this lesson is to teach the students the signs, symptoms, emotional
and physical changes of the fetus and womens body during the 3rd trimester of
pregnancy.
Objectives
Behavioral: SWBAT demonstrate theyve learned at least 3 effects of the womans body
during the 3rd trimester and 3 key developmental factors of the fetus, also during the
3rd trimester by completing an exit slip.
Cognitive: SWBAT summarize the sign, symptoms, and stages of pregnancy inclusion
of this lesson.
Social: SWBAT work cooperatively with peers to reach a correct answer when asked
about question that is relevant to the 3rd trimester of pregnancy.
Content
The 3rd trimester includes months 7-9 or 28-40 weeks in pregnancy
development. It is crucial that the students learn about this stage thoroughly because
this is the time that childbirth can occur, whether prematurely or full term. The following
are subcategories that the students will need to research in their respective groups:
Month 7 or 28-32 weeks- Weight and length of fetus, what systems have
fully developed, what senses have aroused, and a video of growth in the fetus
during this month

Month 8 or 32-36 weeks- Weight and length of fetus, what systems have
fully developed, what senses have aroused, and a video of growth of the fetus
during this month.
Month 9 or 40 weeks- Weight and length of fetus, what systems have fully
developed, what senses have aroused, and a video of growth of the fetus during
this month.
Students will research this months and make a short powerpoint of 3 slides,
including the video, to educate his/her classmates. The teacher will further discuss any
other facts that have not been covered like prematurity and childbirth. The teacher will
video the slides prior to showing to the class. The powerpoint cannot be longer than 3
slides and must include a video that is appropriate.
Materials
Computers w/ internet access and powerpoint
pencils
loose leaf paper
Activity/Procedure
For the initial discussion, the teacher and students will review the past 2
trimesters, months 1-6. this will be led by the teacher just asking what happens in each
trimester and defining terms like, conception and miscarriage. This will last about 6
minutes.
As the lesson activity, students will be divided into 3 groups of 4, if there are
more students each subcategory can be repeated for additional research. In these
groups students will research a given month in the 3rd trimester. These are the following
research subcategories:
Month 7 or 28-32 weeks- Weight and length of fetus, what systems have
fully developed, what senses have aroused, and a video of growth in the fetus
during this month. And at least 3 changes in the womans body during this month.
Month 8 or 32-36 weeks- Weight and length of fetus, what systems have
fully developed, what senses have aroused, and a video of growth of the fetus
during this month. And at least 3 changes in the womans body during this month.
Month 9 or 40 weeks- Weight and length of fetus, what systems have fully
developed, what senses have aroused, and a video of growth of the fetus during
this month. And at least 3 changes in the womans body during this month.

The teacher will further discuss the terms that the students may come across to
better inform the students. This self-discovery would provide students will engagement
and a quick learning session about their month of the 3rd trimester. Students that are
not presenting should be taking notes, as these powerpoints will not be emailed or sent
to peers. Students will be graded on the content of the power point, everyone must
contribute to the powerpoint by having a fact or description of the physical changes in
the womans body during pregnancy. This will last for 32minutes.
The teacher will close the lesson by summarizing the 3rd trimester and childbirth
through a video that is appropriate for the students. This is the video, only minutes 2:00
until 6 minutes.

This will last for 6 minutes. The students will speak their last comments or
questions for the lesson. the students will be dismissed.

Evaluation
Students will be evaluated through the powerpoint and the content they supplied
through the power point. Here is what should be supplied through the power points in
their respective groups.
Alternative Plan
In the event that the class does not have computers. Students should complete
this assignment in their groups by creating a poster with the same content as what is
supposed to be on the powerpoint. The teacher should have pictures of the fetuss
development throughout the 3rd trimester. The teacher will still play the video for
students at the end of the lesson.
