Short Description of LPILE & GROUP Softwares Training Module

Design of Deep Foundations under Axial, Lateral, and Torsional loading

using American Based Ensoft, Inc. Softwares
22-26 August, 2016
LPILE is used for analysis and design of drilled shaft, driven piles or auger-cast piles under
lateral loads. Lateral soil movement option in recent versions of LPILE is very recognized
approach for prediction of resistance of slope stabilizing piles and has applications in pile
reinforced slope stabilization projects.

GROUP is broadly acknowledged for 2D/3D analysis and design of pile groups under combined
loadings (axial, lateral or torsional loading in multiple locations in rigid pile cap).
ENSOFTs GROUP software uses a sophisticated approach (sub-structure approach) to model
the pile groups and it can better assist the structural engineers to design the superstructure using
foundation stiffness matrix. GROUP can analyze the pile group response to applied lateral and
axial loads with a series of nonlinear springs that are internally generated by the software as a
function of user-specified soil properties (e.g. soil type, unit weight, shear strength parameter).
The resulting pile group stiffness matrix effectively condenses the complete pile group
foundation behavior for a given pier. The bridge/structural engineer can then insert the pile
group stiffness matrix at the base of each column in their overall structural model to model the
individual pile group stiffness. GROUP has many additional characteristics to better model the
behavior of pile group.
