UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA:


This lesson plan is a part of a unit plan on health and wellness. The students will explain proper hygiene
techniques that we use on a daily basis.
The goal is for the learner to identify basic techniques for proper hygiene.
LESSON OBJECTIVE:
Given a website and an interactive learning tool, the student will create a comic displaying one of the things he
or she learned.
Given a computer, website addresses, and a comic website, the student will create a 3 slide comic.
STANDARDS ADDRESSED:
Domain Description: In 1995, the National Health Education Standards established health
literacy as the primary outcome of a comprehensive K-12 Health Education program. The product of a
successful health education program is not just a person who knows a lot about health topics, but a
person who is: a critical thinker and problem solver who can apply decision-making and goal-setting
skills within the context of health; a responsible, productive citizen who avoids behaviors that place
his/her health or that of others at risk; a lifelong learner who continues to grow in knowledge by
gathering, analyzing, and applying accurate health information as his/her needs change throughout life.

Standard2:Thestudentwillunderstandtheimportanceofpersonalhygienepracticesasrelated
tohealthyliving.

Learning Expectations: The student will:2.1 demonstrate the importance of personal hygiene
practices. 2.3 identify ways to take responsibility for our health. 2.4 analyze the changes in health and
hygiene needs related to adolescence.

BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:
Students will learn about the most important techniques to staying healthy.
Students will learn how to navigate through and interactive website while learning about ways to stay healthy.
Students will make comic to show what all they have learned from the slideshow and interactive learning site.
PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:
Introduction:
In the intro, I will discuss how important hygiene and how it not only affects the kids, but also
the people around them. Today, you will learn different strategies, different products, and multiple
techniques to stay as healthy as possible. First, you will go to the website Hygiene Habits for Kids and
you will scroll through the slideshow that is on there. The link will be provided and you may write down
notes on your scratch sheet of paper. Next, you will go to the interactive learning site e-Learning for
Kids, and click on start lesson for Body Health. Next, you will click on the guy that says Body
Hygiene. A cabinet will open and you will click on all of the products in the cabinet and learn about
them. Finally, you will go to ToonDoo.com and create a funny, informative comic. Now that we know
what we are doing, let us begin!

Procedures:
At the computer (50 minutes)
Teacher Procedures:
1. While the kids start up their browsers, write links to website up on board.
2. Walk around and make sure students know how to get to websites and navigate through them.
3. Once I know what they know what to do, I will create a ToonDoo to make sure they know what they are
doing.
4. I will continue to walk around and help students build their comics.

Student Procedures:
1. First, go to http://www.healthline.com/health-slideshow/hygiene-habits-kids - 3 and scroll through
slideshow while taking notes.

2. Next, they will go to e-learning for Kids website and click on Body Health. Once there, they will click on the
guy that says Body Hygiene.

3. A cabinet will open, and the student must click on all products within cabinet and read and takes notes on each
one.

4. Student will pick a product or technique to do their ToonDoo on.


5. They will go to ToonDoo and make a funny, informational comic.
6. They will print if off and put it in their portfolio.
After Computer (2 Minutes)
Teacher Procedures:
1. I will get papers from printer and give it back to students.
Student Procedures:
1. The students will get their papers and place them in their portfolio.
The teacher may:
help kids out that do not understand as clearly because the goal of this is to learn, not to grade
help students with computer operation
The Student at Level 3, will be able to:
integrate personal health responsibilities and personal hygiene practices as they relate to daily activities and
changes due to puberty.

Closure: (7 minutes) I will ask students what they learned in their projects. I will go over the importance of
hygiene.
