113.11.SocialStudies,Kindergarten,BeginningwithSchoolYear20112012.
(a)Introduction.
(1)InKindergarten,thestudyoftheself,home,family,andclassroomestablishesthefoundationfor
responsiblecitizenshipinsociety.Studentsexplorestateandnationalheritagebyexaminingthe
celebrationofpatrioticholidaysandthecontributionsofindividuals.Theconceptofchronologyis
introduced.Studentsapplygeographicconceptsoflocationandphysicalandhumancharacteristicsof
place.Studentsidentifybasichumanneedsandwayspeoplemeettheseneeds.Studentslearnthepurpose
ofrulesandtheroleofauthorityfiguresinthehomeandschool.Studentslearncustoms,symbols,and
celebrationsthatrepresentAmericanbeliefsandprinciplesandcontributetoournationalidentity.
Studentscomparefamilycustomsandtraditionsanddescribeexamplesoftechnologyinthehomeand
school.Studentsacquireinformationfromavarietyoforalandvisualsources.Studentspractice
problemsolving,decisionmaking,andindependentthinkingskills.
(2)Tosupporttheteachingoftheessentialknowledgeandskills,theuseofavarietyofrichmaterialis
