Botanical Name of Cymbopogon Winterianus, the leaves of the plant are steam distilled to extract the oil.
Citronella oil is extracted from a resilient grass (Cymbopogon nardus) native to Sri Lanka and Java.

(9) Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus spp. Myrtaceae)

Description:
Eucalyptus essential oil is obtained from fresh leaves of the tall, evergreen eucalyptus tree. The
tree, scientifically classified as Eucalyptus Globulus is also known as fever tree, blue gum tree or stringy bark
tree, depending on where it is located in the world. The twigs and leaves of young and more mature trees are
distilled for the oil. The more mature trees yield more oil, with better aromatic qualities. The oil has a very fluid
consistency, and is a pale clear yellow. Its aroma is fresh, balsamic and agreeable.

Description:

Geranium oil is steam-distilled from the aromatic green parts of the pelargonium, especially the
leaves. The plant must be freshly cut just before the flowers open. The oil is limpid, and fairly colourless,
although there is a faint tinge of green. It has a wonderful aroma, and that of rose geranium is rather like rose oil:
this also contains geraniol and citronellol, which is why geranium is often used to falsify the more expensive rose
oil.

(12) Kuth (Saussurea Costus)

Description:
Costus root is a large erect, perennial plant up to 1mtr high with thick tapering roots
and numerous almost black flowers. The dried roots are macerated in warm water and then subjected to
steam distillation to extract the essential oil.

(13) Lavender ( Lavandula Officinalis)

Description:
The flowers are steam-distilled in the fields where they have grown, and approximately 100 kg
(220 lb) are needed to obtain 500 600g (18 21 lb) essential oil Lavender oil varies in colour from dark yellow
to dark greeny-yellow, and smells very highly scented. The content and quality of the oil depends greatly on
climate, soil and altitude. The French lavender is considered better than the English, for instance, because it is
richer in linalyl acetate: this gives a fruitier and sweeter note, considered pleasanter than the camphoric English
lavender with its higher proportions of lineol.

(16) Mentha (Mentha Arvensis)

Description:
Mentha oil is derived from a plant named Mentha arvensis or common mint. Mentha oil is extremely

flavoring industries. Also, the constituents and derivatives of mentha oil like mint and menthol are used widely.

was therefore used in homes as a strewing herb and has also been spread in granaries to keep the rodents off the

Spearmint oil is extracted from Mentha spicata (also known as Mentha viridis) of the Labiatae

bath water and it had a reputation for curing sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhea. During the medieval

Description:
Extraction of this essential oil is done by steam distillation of dried grass which is harvested
before flowering. The chief constituents of this oil are geraniol, geranyl acetate, dipentene, linalool, limonene and
myrcene. This oil smells like rose oil, which is how it got the name Palma Rosa. This is also why it is sometimes
used in place of rose oil and is often adulterated with rose oil, since it is cheaper.Palmarosa Essential Oil is also
known by the name of Cymbopogon martinii and is a species of grass from lemon grass genus. Best known by the
common names palmarosa, Indian geranium and rosha grass, the essential oil extracted from the shoot part of the
plant contains active compound geraniol that is valued for its scent as well as for number of traditional medicinal

(22) Patchouli (Pogostemon Patchouli)

Description:
After drying in the sun, the young leaves and shoots are steam distilled. The oil is liquid and
transparent and is a yellow-brown or greenish-brown, depending on its provenance. Sometimes patchouli oil can
be very thick with a persistent smell, earthy and penetrating.
