Reflection Paper
1.

Being in the fitness technician program, we have to take a lot of different classes

about the human body, how to keep it healthy, what components make a healthy body
etc. In this class there were connections with several other courses that I have taken.
One specific course would be kinesiology. There we learned about movement,
and muscle structure. In this course, I feel like I had a benefit because as I would see
words like Adduction, Abduction, Quadriceps, Gastrocnemius, I would already know the
basic functions. So when looking at muscle structure it was nice to have been able to
make that connection.
Another course that was easy to connect with this course is my strength and
toning class. We just skimmed parts of nutrition in that class, and how it affects muscles,
and energy, so reading about it in this course helped me to be able to succeed in my
workout classes.

Before taking this course, I was not aware that it would focus on how to

discipline yourself and get into a routine in order to stay healthy. I feel like that is a huge
component of success is to emphasize that one cannot do fad diets and remain healthy
for long. The book talks about how to structure yourself, how to fuel your body, as well

as different workouts to do and what muscles each exercise is working. It supplies

almost all of the tools needed to ensure a healthy lifestyle.
I feel like sitting down and writing out my goals was a big deal. It made me really
have to think about what I want to accomplish and write it down. I had to decide what
steps to take in order to do it and I think that is the most helpful part. Anybody can set a
goal, but if you do not write out the steps, there is no recipe to follow in order to get to
your ultimate goal.
In the future I will continue to try and write down a goal I have, and also the steps
needed. It is good that we learned to brainstorm about the obstacles we may face
because in my personal opinion, one should always have a plan B (and/or C and D).
My intention is to always stay physically active for my health as well as mental
well-being. Exercise is a great outlet for stress or anxiety and I intend to continue to use
what I have learned throughout my life.
I dont really have any suggestions for the course. I feel like the discussions were
great because we got to hear from our peers what kinds of things are helpful to them. I
enjoyed being able to read the material on my own. I really like the idea of two big due
dates. That way we are allowed to pace ourselves, but it is also easy to remember that
way.
