Instructional Website Narrative
While this projects main focus was to teach students a lesson using a website, and
interactive module, and an instructional video there were many other elements that could have
been used. These secondary elements were added to the lesson to give a better understanding of
the material and to enhance the learning experience. For one example I used many instructional
videos from YouTube. I choose to incorporate these videos because they went more in depth
with some of the content which will help the students learn more from watching the videos. The
YouTube videos are located in my interactive module. Another secondary element I decided to
include in a concept map. I used Creately to create a flowchart of a concept that was going to be
explained in my instructional video. I chose to do this to introduce the concept before going into
detail. This gives the students a visual of what they will be learning about. This flowchart is
located on the introductory page for the instructional video. One last element I used in my lesson
was student interactions. I used a google form so they could type a response to a question I gave
them. This ensures that they are actively learning so they can answer the question correctly. This
found in the interactive tutorial.
My website has allowed me to address many of the state standard for teachers. By
creating my instructional website and incorporating many elements within the website I designed
digital age learning experiences. By incorporating all the technology and allowing the students to
use technology when completely the assignment I have completed this standard. The website
also allowed students to be apart of their learning by choosing their own path while working
through the lesson. I also modeled digital age work but using all the technology elements and
integrating them effectively to help students learn.
Through completing this project I have learned a lot about the integration of technology.
You can go in many different directions when teaching and technology helps us do that. You can
switch things up very easily and this is needed for most students. Using all the videos and
graphics makes a presentation or website much more interesting. This helps the students stay
focused on the lesson because of new elements they haven't seen before. I have learned that
incorporating the use of technology in the right place can really enhance the learning experience.
Along with that there are also many things that could be improved within my instructional
website. I could also add more or even different used of technology such as a screen cast because
that was something I did not use but could very well enhance learning. I also could make
improvements to all areas in my project and make it more clean and even more professional.
