Celebrating its rst anniversary, Alila Solo

hosted a special dinner titled Taste of
Sulawesi. Held at the Presidential Suite that
boasts the skyline of Solo, the dinner took
Sulawesi avors to the ne dining scene courtesy
of Chef Petty Elliott, the hotels Guest Chef in
Residence. Among the dishes presented that
night were Ikan Gohu from North Sulawesi
as the appetizer, and Soto Makassar and Es
Pallu Butung from South Sulawesi for the third

CLEAN THE CITY

It was a Sunday to remember as 20,000
people in Jakarta from all works of life
gathered to join in the fourth Clean Up Jakarta
Day. Hand in hand they worked closely with
the Dinas Kebersihan DKI (Jakartas Sanitation
Department) to help clean 53 different spots
in the capital city including two areas in
Tangerang. These volunteers, who were labeled
Clean Up Heroes, managed to collect
80,000 kilograms of waste from the streets
and gutters and delivered 30,000 kilograms to
Bank Sampah (The Waste Bank) for recycling.
This movement is also taken root in other areas
of Indonesia, including Bandung in West Java
and Bali.

Run and the 5K Fun Run participants will turn back in front
of Luna Villa at Seminyak Beach and The Lanai Restaurant
at Double Six Beach respectively. Meanwhile, the 10K
runners will continue on to Legian Beach and Kuta Beach
before they turn back in front of The Hard Rock Hotel.

On November 5, the Bali Safari & Marine Park invited children from the Benih Kasih
Orphanage to celebrate Love Our Flora and Fauna Day. The celebration began with
a safari journey where the children saw animals from Africa, India and Indonesia, then
continued with several programs including Predator to Pray (a tiger show), Elephant
Education Show and Safari Pool Paper. The kids were also taken to the Parks Petting

hotels have on-call doctors on standby. For Bali
Belly, Lomotil and Imodium eliminate symptoms,
but not gastro-related infections. A fever along
with symptoms requires doctor-prescribed
antibiotics.
Drink as much liquid as possible. Isotonic
drinks under various brand names are widely
available and are known to replenish body
hydration and replace uids. For discomfort,
diarrhea and cramping, drink strong, hot tea;
avoid fruits and spicy foods.
Some day-biting mosquitoes carry dengue
fever, but this is not a problem in tourist areas.
Bali is non-malarial and prophylaxis is not
required. Mosquito bites, cuts or abrasions
easily become infected in the tropics. Treat them
immediately.
Drink only bottled or boiled water. Peel fruit
before eating; avoid raw vegetables except at
reputable restaurants. Ice in restaurants is safe.
Protect yourself from the intense equatorial sun.
Use high SPF sunblock and a hat.
AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases
are increasing in Indonesia. Local sex workers
have multiple partners from around the world.
They are not checked for sexually transmitted
diseases. Act responsibly and use condoms,
available over the counter at pharmacies.
