Hermetic K-Series bevel gear boxes

Small, lightweight, powerful

Convincing:
The benets of the Hermetic K-Series
Over the years the size and power density of bevel
gear boxes could hardly be better optimized. However,
with the innovative Hermetic K-Series Haugg is
opening the door to a new era. Due to implementation
of modern FEA analysis techniques, material properties and stress distributions can now yield optimum
designs. The consequences: Hermetic K gear boxes
are maintenance free, compact and easy to install.
Small but powerful
Compared with competitive products Hermetic K
drives has an edge length that is 510 mm smaller.
The smallest drive in the range has a cube edge size
of only 35 mm and is designed for a nominal torque
of 5 Nm.
Versatile capabilities
There are various sizes up to 85 mm and up to 40 Nm
available. Every Hermetic K drive can be ordered
ready to mount directly to an IEC standard motor.
Besides the types displayed in the brochure there
are a wide range of custom mounts.

attractive price
Hermetic K-Series is comprised of a lot of nonvariable
parts. This modularity has huge benets: The components are made in high quantities and, therefore, are
very cost effective. With stock parts, 85% of the types
can be assembled and delivered within four days. Upon
request, we are can produce any custom design.
Keep cost reductions in focus
Besides the initial purchasing price, the costs of installation and operation are important. With Aluminium
you can eliminate painting the casing and anges.
With threaded holes at all mounting points combined
with the clever cube shape, the drives can be integrated
into new and existing designs very cost effectively.
The high efciency factor of the gear boxes reduces
power consumption by a factor of 2 to 10 in relation
to the gear box price. Compared to a worm gear, the
savings can be up to 30 times of the product cost.

Premium, efcient and precise

The bevel gears and pinions are made of hardened highstrength steel. The module of the spiral gears are
exceptional small. The goal: highest transmission
of power, outstanding smoothness and excellent
efciency.
Benet of lightweight
The casing of the Hermetic K drives are made of
high-strength Aluminium. Besides being lightweight,
corrosion-resistance is a tremendous benet. Also,
Aluminium provides for thermal stability of all surfaces up to the maximum temperature. Yet, the main
differentiator is the outstanding heat conductivity of
the casing.

Kinematics
The ratios given in the tables are mathematically precise and are equal to standard ratios.
All gear sets are spiral, hardened and with the same
orientation of teeth. The several combination of the
directions of spirals and rotation leading to different
bearing loads. When assuming that the gear box has
similar operational demands in either direction of
rotation (clockwise or counterclockwise) a life-cycle
of 10.000 h can be expected.
The gear boxes can be driven either at the nominal
input shaft or at the output shaft. Cases and anges
are made of high-strength Aluminum. When mounting
other drive components to the shafts of the gear box,
its important not to load forces on the bearings as
damage to the bearings may occur.
Detailed dimensions could be found in this brochure.
At www.haugg.com you can download 2D and 3D
CAD-Files.
The values for torque and power are evaluated for
industrial applications. If in doubt, the values should
be approved for the specic application.

Lubrication
The Hermetic K are sealed for life with oil. The
oil level is adjusted to achieve maximum dissipation
of heat in any orientation. In case of an extreme
application, an adjustment of lubrication level can be
requested. The gear boxes of this lightweight series
are designed to run without any exhaust port. For
critical applications requiring venting due to very high
internal temperatures of the gearbox, a vent port can
be provided. Please consult with us.
Sealing
The gear boxes are sealed with single-lip oil-seals (NBR).
When necessary, a dustproof seal or high temperature
seal (Viton, FPM) can be used. Note that premium
seals can reduce gear box efciency and thus should
be considered during the design phase.
Guarantee
Opening of the case voids our warrantee. Any claims
are only valid based on notice of the facts in this
brochure. Customers must submit proof to establish
a claim.

Power limit
The power limit is evaluated at an ambient temperature
of 20 C and a with a maximum oil temperature of
90 C. The maximum power that can be applied to the
gear box is independent of speed and should not be
exceeded under any circumstances. This power value
is based on a continuous operation (S1). Its assumed
that heat is only dissipated by radiation. In case of
different environmental conditions the thermal limitations have to be adjusted individually. A practical test
in the actual environment is the best way to assure
success.
