Missouri Pre-Service Teacher Assessment (MoPTA)

Lesson Plan Format/Rubric

Standards/Skills with brief description
Common Core standards standard 4
Include at least one standard, with a brief description of the skill the student will
accomplish.
The skill the students will accomplish will be partner working.

Learning Objectives/Goals (Bloom vocabulary)

The lessons objectives and learning outcomes appropriate for meeting curricular
and student needs Cooperative learning and research.
Include no more than 2 objectives, stated correctly as taught.
Students will be able to appreciate the purpose of the Olympics and attain new
knowledge of the sports played.

Assessment (type[s] of assessment used throughout the lesson) What will inform
your instruction? Assessment(s) before, during, and after the lesson: Think: It does
not have to be a test it can be effective questioning, conferencing, pair share
what will you do?

Before: Pre-assessment: Show a video of Michael Phelps during one of his most
famous races and see if the students know who he is and if they know about the
olympics.

During: check for understanding: Have the students share different sports and
events that are in the olympics

After: final assessment

Take students to the library or computer lab and assign them partners. Then the
groups will research the sport they chose and find the general information about it.
such as year introduced, did people like it at first, what gender participates in the
event, etc.

Lesson Structure and Procedures Sequence of events of the lesson elements.

(The before, during, and after the lesson, e.g., Engagement/Opening, Procedures,
Guided Practice, Conclusion)
Steps in the instructional act: Anticipatory Set, Opening, Engagement:
Input, Procedures, Lesson:
Go over general information about the olympics so the students have a better
knowledge about how it was back when it started to now.
Guided Practice:
Have the students draw a picture of themselves competing in an event of the
olympics
Independent Practice:
Have the students go home and ask their parents what their favorite event in the
olympics is and come to class the next day and briefly share it with the class.
Closure
Once the students have finished their research, we will take a little break and go
outside and participate in one of the most popular events in the olympics, soccer.

Instructional Strategies: Think: partners, Flexible Grouping, Conferencing, etc.

(other best practices). *modeling
Teacher approach to helping students achieve the learning objectives and meet
their needs
The students will be in groups for their research.

Learning Activities: Think: What will the students do? Could be independent or
guided practice, group work, research, read aloud, read to self, etc.
Opportunities provided for students to develop knowledge and skills of the learning
objectives
The students working together will help them get a different side of the sports
and how they work.

Resources and Materials: Think: What do I need for the lesson?

List of materials used in the planning of and during the instruction of the lesson
I will need books about the olympics and computers to research information the
books do not have.

Technology: How can you introduce, extend, reinforce, the learning with
technology: Think Web2.0 tools, smart notebook tools, iPads, Promethean board,
etc.
Instructional and/or assistive technology incorporated into the lesson to enhance
instruction and student learning
Using iPads will help the students research the information needed to
understand the history of the sport they chose.
Differentiation/Accommodations/Modifications/Increase in Rigor
To help meet the needs of all learners, learning differences, cultural and language
differences, etc. Think: SPED, Gifted, ELL, Flexible grouping (whole group, small
group, one-on-one), mini-lesson, departmentalized, etc. Differentiation addresses
learning styles and ability levels.

We will watch different short videos about the greatest olympic feats and moments
of all time. Then ask the class why they think these moments are so special.

Classroom Management
Strategies consistent with the learning needs of the lesson that also meet student
behavior needs to help keep students on task and actively engaged: Think
transitions, clear concise directions, task specific feedback, organized delivery,
procedures, engagement, developmentally appropriate and proper level of
difficulty.
The activities done for this lesson will allow the students to realize their energy by
doing little activities where they will be moving and also will apply to their interests
as many kids love being active and playing sports.
Extensions: Think: Blooms taxonomy, project-based, inquiry-based, small group,
investigations, WebQuest, long-term projects, menu of choices,
Activities for early finishers that extends students understanding of and thinking
about the learning objectives by applying their new knowledge in a different way.
Have the students come up with their own sport and why it should be incorporated
into the olympics

Follow-up to Todays Lesson: Think: How can my students link this to prior
learning, make it relevant for them, and use it in the future?
Quick activity for review or building on todays learning that will deepen student
understanding and interconnect concepts (may be incorporated tomorrow or
throughout the unit)
This will allow the students to have an appreciation of the olympics and how
hard the athletes work. Also might even draw some students to try out new
sports to go out and start up.
Additional Information: Think: Reflective practice, next time what will I do the
same or differently? Did I learn anything from the lesson that will help my students
grow?
Any area or lesson component that may not have been covered by this format that
you think is vital to include in this lesson

I will keep students on track and ask more personal questions like if any of them like
to do any of these activities/sports. Or if they know anyone who does them.
