Throughout my initial researching on this paper I was worried I wouldnt find enough statistics
and factual evidence to support my thesis. I figured my topic was too broad and abstract to have
a specific viewpoint. Now, due to my avid research I have taken a stand. I am even considering
changing my inquiry question to better encompass my opinion on the stand I have taken. Before
my question was What is music to me? however I believe the question does music do more
harm than good? serves as a more wholesome question of inquiry. I wasnt expecting to
change my question and I dont believe I would have been able to take such a stand if i hadnt
put in the research. I found that the majority of my sources overlapped. They all agreed that
music has a psychological effect on a person, whether that is negative or positive. However two
of my sources entitled the power of music and the influence of music made me consider
viewpoints and opinions I had not yet considered. The sources I have required are very diverse
in both content and structure. Some sources are more reliable than others and I plan on
mentioning that in my paper. Differences between those credible sources and those not so
credible sources are usually more obvious to seek out due to the structure and
comprehensiveness of a source. Each source agrees that music evokes emotion. The debate is
whether music brings about positive emotions and actions or negative ones. However some
articles speak more generally and discuss how music affects the brain specifically. These factual
articles are entitled under the influence of.music? and What happens to your brain under
the influence of music? These pieces actually seemed like they were closer to inquiry

proposals. and also 8 surprising ways music affects and benefits our brains. They are more
scientific and less biased.I also found that they were shorter in length. I found the scholarly
journals to be more opinionated in biased. There was also more diverse content in the scholarly
articles. I can now say I am much more confident writing this paper than I was going into it at
first. I feel like I have sufficient information and a good balance between facts and opinions. I
also believe the sources I have chosen are diverse enough to give me a good sense of the
various opinions and voices on the topic.
