Tribute

Thank You to Past Participants

(Facilitated by Janice)
This session is dedicated to
Arnold April, VSC Member of
the Bureau of Sages. We are
grateful to his contributions to
our efforts.

Introduction

What is the Bureau of Sages?

(Facilitated by Bonnie)
The Bureau of Sages is an advisory board
consisting of 9 older adult members (6 of whom
are nursing home residents and 3 of whom are
stay-at-home elders), and 6 professional members
involved in research and clinical practice.

Why Is It Important?
(Facilitated by Bonnie)
The Bureau of Sages brings together a variety of
stakeholders (who are the members of the
Bureau) in order to provide voice to the direction,
design, and implementation of national research
on aging.
The Bureau of Sages works to ensure elders
perspectives are heard, respected, and drive
research and clinical practice.

Mission
(Facilitated by Carol)
Empowering nursing home community members
and stay-at-home elders to learn and collaborate
with researchers to advocate for timely, useful
studies that matter to them.

Vision
(Facilitated by Carol)
Improved lives for older adults as the result of
Patient-Centered research.

Our Accomplishments Thus Far

(Facilitated by Janice)
Collectively wrote the mission and vision,
Engaged in 3 formal retreats,
Completed homework assignments to learn
about patient-centered outcomes research and
comparative-effectiveness research,
Discussed and rated important research topics,
Provided professional stakeholders with
feedback on their research.

Long-Term Goals
(Facilitated by Janice)
Serve as an advisory bureau to local and
national researchers wishing to conduct
Comparative Effectiveness Research or
Patient-Centered Outcomes Research, such as
CJE SeniorLifes Research Department.
Serve as champions and role models for
incorporating the voice of diverse patient
populations into research.
