MULTI-MEDIA AUTHORING TEMPLATE

Name: Catherine Petillo

PART A: Describe how students could create and publish an original movie, audio file, podcast, or vodcast in order to achieve
required learning standards. Challenge: For an A provide an idea where the learning activity reaches a LoTi level 4a or
above. To do this you will have to design a project where students engage in higher-order thinking and publish their work to an
audience that will use or care about the results. Broad feedback for their work is also a great way to boost interest and
performance.

SS3H2 The student will discuss the lives of Americans who expanded peoples rights and freedoms in a democracy.
a. Paul Revere (independence), Frederick Douglass (civil rights), Susan B. Anthony (womens rights), Mary McLeod
Bethune (education), Franklin D. Roosevelt (New Deal and World War II), Eleanor Roosevelt (United Nations and
human rights), Thurgood Marshall (civil rights), Lyndon B. Johnson (Great Society and voting rights), and Csar
Chvez (workers rights).

Brief Description of Learning Experience: As you address the standards, what will students and teachers do? How will
the project be introduced? How long will it take to complete? What audience will use/care about the multimedia projects
students are creating? How broad is this audience? How will student work be assessed and by whom? Who will provide
feedback to students about their work? (Overview should be approximately 1-2 paragraphs)
The project will be the students creating a short, 5 minute, video on one of the famous people we will be talking about this
unit. They will have to do a google search to find pictures from their childhood, adulthood, and what they were famous
for. They will also have to find a video of a speech that person did along with some music to add to the video to play while
the pictures are being displayed.
The teacher will walk around to help students as they are doing their research and creating their videos. The teacher is
going to do a lesson on how to create their video before they start their project. The students will create a sample video
the day before they create their real video.
The assignment should take a day or so to complete, depending on how well they are doing with the software.

Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking: What LoTi level would this lesson be and Why? This is a LoTi 5 lesson.
The students will be creating a video on a famous person from the unit. They will have to be able to find videos, pictures and
audio to add to the video. This video will be shared with the grade level of the school of the students to use as a reference as we
go through the unit.
Importance of technology: Why is using a multimedia authoring tools critical to the project? Could the project be
completed without this technology? What would be lost without using it? What other types of technology, if any, are
going to be used in the learning experience? The project would not be able to be created if there was not access to technology.
The point of the project is to make a video that shows the persons life and what they have accomplished during their life. It is a
tribute video to that person. Without technology, the students would not be able to create their videos.
Inspiration (optional): If you used existing multimedia projects as a model for your project (whether in part or whole),
include the URL(s) so we can visit. Explain what concepts you borrowed from others.
I used this idea from my technology professor who taught us how to create the video. I just added the part of sharing the video
with the grade level.
Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Briefly discuss some possible issues surrounding internet safety and student
privacy that could arise while implementing this learning experience and explain how youd minimize risks to
students/yourself, alleviate any fears by parents/administrators, and follow school districts Internet Safety/Use Policy.
Students could possible search keywords that could pull up inappropriate content. It is important to talk to students about using
safety as they search the internet for their pictures, audio and videos. They need to be sure to not create any accounts, especially
ones that require private information.
