Artifact #1: Early Childhood Education Diploma

My first artifact is my diploma in Early Childhood Education. After completing two years at Mohawk
College, from 2007-2009 I was an eligible Early Childhood Educator. Today I am now a Registered Early
Childhood Educator, as you need to be registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators in order
to practice in the field. This program gave me a better insight on how children at a young age develop and
grow. As an educator it is important for me to foster, and build trusting relationships with children at a
young age. Children need to be given every opportunity to be able to grow, play, and be who they want to
be in this world.
Why did you include this artifact?
The reason I included this artifact is because it is something I am very proud of! It is an
accomplishment that has led me to where I am in education now. This artifact is a document that is very
important to me, and it represents the starting point of the ten years I have been in post-secondary
education. By completing the Early Childhood Education Program, and receiving my diploma have led
me to believe that becoming a classroom teacher is possible. This artifact highlights that I want to be in a
career that involves helping others, and educating the lives of future children.
How does this artifact show evidence that you are prepared for a career in education?
This artifact shows evidence that I am prepared for a career in education because it demonstrates that I
have an interest to work with children, and have the ability to work with children. With the successful
completion of being in the Early Childhood Education Program, and receiving my diploma, I am
dedicated to bettering the life of a child, and making sure that their needs are put before my own. Through
the course work, and four placements I was a part of, one being in an elementary school, has also assisted
greatly in my preparation for a career in education.
