WELCOME TO JERUSALEM

Psalm 122:

A song of ascents. Of David.

I rejoiced when they said to me,

We are going to the House of the Lord.
2
Our feet stood inside your gates, O Jerusalem,
3
Jerusalem built up, a city knit together,
4
to which tribes would make pilgrimage,
the tribes of the Lord,
as was enjoined upon Israel
to praise the name of the Lord.
5
There the thrones of judgment stood,
thrones of the house of David.
6
Pray for the well-being of Jerusalem
May those who love you be at peace.
7
May there be well-being within your ramparts,
peace in your citadels.
8
For the sake of my kin and friends,
I pray for your well-being;
for the sake of the house of the Lord our God,
I seek your good.
Genesis 14:
18
King Malchizedek of Salem (Jerusalem)* brought out bread
and wine; he was a priest of God Most High. 19 He blessed
Abram, saying, Blessed be Abram of God Most High,
Creator of heaven and earth.

*(First mention of Jerusalem in the Bible)

If I forget thee, O Jerusalem,
may my right hand forget its cunning.
May my tongue cleave to the root of my mouth,
If I do not set Jerusalem above my highest joy.
(Psalms 137:5-6)

The Shehechiyanu prayer is recited when tasting a fruit for the first time in
the season, when moving into a new home, at the beginning of Jewish
holidays, and on many other joyous occasions, such as ones initial arrival in
Jerusalem to begin a meaningful visit to the country.
When Abraham first entered Jerusalem, he was welcomed by King
Melchizedek with bread and wine.
This practice has become a tradition for a ceremonial entrance into
Jerusalem.

. ,
Baruch ata adonai eloheinu melech haolam,
shehechiyanu, vkiyamanu, vhigiyanu lazman hazeh.
We give thanks to You O Lord our God, Ruler of the
universe, for giving us life, for sustaining us, and for
enabling us to reach the moment of joy.
BLESSINGS:
Over wine:

. ,
Barukh ata Adonai Eloheinu melekh ha-olam bo-re p'ri hagafen.
We praise You, Lord, our God, Sovereign of all, who creates the fruit of the vine.
Over bread:

.
,
Barukh atah Adonai Elohaynu melekh ha-olam ha-motzi lechem min ha-aretz.
We praise You, Lord, our God, Sovereign of all, who brings forth bread from the earth.

Thus says the Lord of Hosts;

Old men and old women shall yet again dwell in the streets of Jerusalem.
And every person with their staff in hand for old age.
And the city shall be full of boys and girls in the streets.
(Zechariah 8:3-5)

Jerusalem of Gold

The olive trees that stand in silence/ Upon the hills of time
To hear the voices of the city/ As bells of evening chime
How many songs, how many stories/ The stony hills recall
Around her heart my city carries/ A lonely ancient Wall.
Jerusalem of gold, of copper and of light
Am I not a violin for all your songs.
Weve now returned to wells of water/ The ancient market square
The shofar sounding from the Temple/ To call the world to prayer
And far away beyond the desert/ A thousand suns will glow
We shall be going to the Jordan/ by way of Jericho.
Jerusalem of gold, of copper and of light
