1.OBJECTIVE
In this project, a hardware prototype implementation of Smart Home Automation System
is proposed. The main objectives of the Smart Home Automation System are to provide a
low-cost solution to minimize the energy consumption, provide support and comfort, and
make life easier. The system can monitor the changes in temperature, lighting, detect fire
and keep a check on the safety of the house and reducing human effort for controlling
house hold appliances.

2.MOTIVATION
Home automation has been something of a science ction fantasy for decades. Never
before has it been as technically feasible as it is today. The past ve years alone has seen
pervasive computing become a reality, with many homes now overrun with smart phones,
tablet computers, laptops, web-enabled television sets, and home computers.
There exists a strong desire for home customisability and programmability, to allow the
home to be tailored to individual needs.Despite this desire, existing solutions available do
not allow programmability by end users. Instead, home systems typically require trained
professionals to install, maintain and customise the system which is both inconvenient
and expensive.
Through developing a exible home automation system which can be easily setup,
maintained and programmed by the end user the need for expensive system installers and
pricey customisation and maintenance costs can be substantially reduced. By lowering
costs, and offering a system which can easily be extended over time, home automation
becomes an affordable and realistic option for many households.

1. Y. Zhao and Z. Ye, A Low Cost GSM/GPRS Based Wireless Home Security
System, IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics, vol. 54, no. 2, pp. 567572, 2008.
Through this paper, we get to know about the historical background of the home security
system that is present since the very beginning.
we got to know the design and implementation of a low cost, low power consumption, and
GSM/GPRS (Global System for Mobile Communication /General Packet Radio Service)
based wireless home security system.
The system is a wireless home network which contains a GSM/GPRS gateway and three
kinds of wireless security sensor nodes that are door security nodes, infrared security nodes
and fire alarm nodes. The nodes are easy installing. The system can response rapidly to
alarm incidents and has a friendly user interface including a LCD (Liquid Crystal Display)
and a capacitive sensor keyboard. The wireless communication protocol between the
gateway and the nodes is also suitable for other home appliances.
In this paper, we describe a remote appliance control system which can control different
household appliances by sending a SMS from a mobile phone and monitor the safety and
security of the house just by a SMS.

Through this paper, we get the idea to enhance our security system by incorporating it with
GSM which take a very less power and it is very cost effective. The system is a wireless
home network which contains a GSM modem and magnet with relay which are door
security nodes. The system can response rapidly as intruder detect and GSM module will
do alert home owner. This security system for alerting a house owner wherever he will.

GSM can be used as the communication via to receive signals captured by machines in
remote places, and also to send control signals to remote machines. The installation of long
wires to reach remote places (i.e. bridges, vending machines, etc.) is more expensive than
the use of a mobile network that can perform the same task. Of course suitable sensors and
actuators are needed for the mentioned examples and others. Some automatic GSM module
is also needed, but long wired installation is not necessary.

Through this paper, we get to know about different types of sensors which can be used to
serve different purposes. These sensors can be used to enhance the security of our home
from the intruders as well as from the mishaps that happened during our day to day life.
SENSOR: A device which detects or measures a physical property and records, indicates,
or otherwise responds to it. A sensor is a type of transducer; sensors may provide various
types of output, but typically use electrical or optical signals. For example,
a thermocouple generates a known voltage (the output) in response to its temperature (the
environment).
Different types of sensors:
Temperature sensor (LM35)
Gas Sensor (MQ-5 LPG SENSOR)
PIR Motion Sensor
Motion sensor
IR Sensor

4.METHODOLOGY
The Project has been implemented in three subsequent stages before final
integration into a comprehensive system.
At every stage a basic functionality has been incorporated into the system and has
been tested individually and after successful implementation all parts have been
integrated to build a complete security and automation system.

Stage 1. Implementation of a basic isolated security module.

Stage 2. Aiding security module with GSM Modem to facilitate home to user
communication.

Stage 3. Regulating home appliances from a remote location
