the recording.

Exercise 2: It will help Ss to listen to as well as read the text for gist
understanding. Tell Ss not to worry about understanding every word at this
stage but to focus on which celebration they think is the most exciting.
Remind Ss to give reasons for their choice of exciting celebrations.

Exercise 3: Ss read the text again and answer the questions. After checking
answers, explain or encourage Ss to guess the meaning of new words in the
texts.
Exercise 4: Give Ss time to look at the table and understand what specific
pieces of information they will be looking for while listening. Tell Ss not to
worry about understanding every word but to listen for specific information
they need to complete the table. After checking answers, write on the board
Auld Lang Syne. Tell Ss that this is a traditional song in Scottish about the
good old times. People hold hands and sing it in Scotland and other countries
on New Years Eve.
