Rhetorical Knowledge
Rhetorical knowledge is being capable of using various strategies in
instances of writing. Writers are able to extend their own knowledge of the
components of written literature in their own work.
Utilize various strategies in rhetoric to both critically read and write
literature.
Be familiar enough with the structure/conventions of writing to realize
how genres are characterized by them.
Be flexible enough with to alter their writing style as their writing
situation changes.
Critical Reading
Critical reading is mostly about being able to ascertain the overall meaning
of a piece of literature. Competent, academic-level writers must be able to
sort fact from opinion, so as to appropriately apply it to their writing.
Use reading to uncover more about the world.
Be able to accurately source material (primary, secondary, etc.)
Be able to distinguish between different literary technique and how
they properly function in writing.
Composing Processes
Writers have various methods to best compose their pieces of writing. The
writing process is almost never straight-forward, as additional research is
commonly done with revision, and are commonly lenient, with very little
definite structure to them.
Be knowledgeable of different writing strategies.
Use all of the parts of the writing process while writing.
Use the writing process to strengthen their writing.
Knowledge of Conventions
Conventions are the foundational rules and expectations of writing. Rules are
used in a variety of ways in literature (spelling, grammar, etc.) Rules for
writing also influence larger aspects of the piece of writing as a whole.
Know all of the different rules for writing depending on what is being
written.
Be curious as to why rules differ from writing to writing.
Cite sources that are used appropriately.
Practice developing refinement of linguistic skills (grammar,
punctuation, spelling, etc.).
Critical Reflection

It is the way writers are able to realize how and why they write the way/what
they do. It is the ability to explain the choices made as a writer in writing
something.
Be able to reflect on how and why they write the way they do.
Look back at themselves through their writing.
Be aware of what conventions are used in personal pieces of writing.
Understand how important self-reflection is to the process of writing.
