Statement of Gwen Samuel, Founder of the Connecticut Parents Union

On President-Elect Donald J. Trump's Nomination of Elisabeth DeVos for
Secretary of Education

The Connecticut Parents Union membership has mixed views regarding the nomination
of Elisabeth DeVos as Secretary of Education.
While many Connecticut Parents Union members commend Mrs. DeVos commitment to
ensure all parents have access to high quality educational and basic human need
opportunities for their children via school choice, many of the parents of color and/or low
income are wondering will she have the moral courage to remain steadfast in upholding
the civil and human rights for children of color and the poor.
Moreover, will she remain steadfast in holding educators and administrators
accountable to the roles they play in ensuring the academic success of all children,
regardless of zip-code.
As parents, we are asking Mrs. DeVos and the Trump-Pence Administration to make
decisions that benefit all children regardless of their race, zip-code, or gender. As
adults, we must remember -- Schools are for kids All Kids-- Not Adult Agendas!
The mission of the CT Parents Union is to ensure that every child has access to
effective educational opportunities regardless of their zip-code. To this end, we stand
ready to work with Mrs. DeVos to protect the educational, civil, and human rights of ALL
children
