It is a study performed by the University of Kent Careers and
Employability Service.
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
To know the most common characteristics and skills sets the employers
are looking for.
VARIABLES
The variables of the study pertains to the different attitude,
character, training and skills and other aspects that the employer is
searching for a certain job. Possible factors that may affect the
variables will include the nature of work and company, competence and
experience required, knowledge and background regarding the job.
RESULT OF THE STUDY
The study search for the Top 10 Characteristics that an applicant has
to possess.
1. VERBAL COMMUNICATION - able to express your ideas clearly and
confidently in speech.
2. TEAMWORK work confidently within a group.
3. COMMERCIAL AWARENESS understand the commercial realities affecting
organization.
4. ANALYZING AND INVESTIGATING gather information systematically to
establish facts and principles. Problem solving.
5. INITIATIVE/SELF MOTIVATIION able to act on initiative, identify
opportunities and proactive in putting forward ideas and solutions.
6. DRIVE determination to get things done. Make things happen and
constantly looking for better ways of doing things.
7. WRITTEN COMMUNICATION able to express yourself clearly in writing.
8. PLANNING AND ORGANIZING - able to plan activities and carry them
through effectively.
9. FLEXIBILITY adapt successfully to changing situations and
environments.
10. TIME MANAGEMENT manage time effectively, prioritizing tasks and
able to work to deadlines.
The information is based on a number of surveys on the skills
required by graduates undertaken by Microsoft, Target Jobs,the BBC,
Prospects, NACE, and AGR and other organizations.
