Strengths
Jawaher, your lesson started
well with your own personal
story which emphasised a
proud memory. The students
were fully engaged and
enjoyed this introduction
which was teacher modelling.
At this phase you introduced
the lesson and set up
expectations which was good.
You discussed proud and asked
questions following the story
to reinforce the meaning of
proud. This was good planning.
At this early phase your
expression and voice tone
were clear but your voice
became raised and loud when
the students started calling
out.
Unfortunately, in phase 2 you
didnt keep a strong focus on
the learning and there wasnt
enough direct teaching and
modelling from you. Reading

and writing skills need

scaffolding with modelling too.
You also didnt set your
expectations clearly and
prepare the students for the
reading task. Girls at the back
of the room didnt look at their
book. There was some calling
out in this phase which you
didnt stop and by phase 3 the
girls were shouting. Monitor
this throughout the lesson.
Plan your lesson carefully and
add more scaffolding for
learning with feedback that
supports students progress.
Try to better plan a sequence
of actions for the learning
experiences- break them down
to scaffold and directly explain
with instructions.
Jawaher please work on the se
points for your next
observation.

groups or independently. You
left the students to organise
things at your desk.
Sequence your planned
learning experiences.
You need to plan phases 2 & 3
so you include teacher
modelling and scaffolding.
Did you differentiate in this
lesson?
You have established
classroom routines and
transitions but you need to be
consistent throughout the
lesson. Remind students of
your expectations in each
phase.

You need to better manage

the learning through
modelling and clear
instructions.
Include a range of studentcentred activities in the
lesson not just for 2 or 3
students coming to front of
the room ( this is modelling
not practice). Pair work for
practising language skills is
one way.
Dont rush the students and
say hurry hurry when they are
working- this is demotivating
for them

Monitor the class throughout

the lesson on all phases
