The students will be divided into groups of 4. The groups will be


determined by the lecturer.
In groups, the students are required to go to primary/secondary
schools
to
understand
the
school-based
assessments
implemented in schools.
The students will be divided based on the following:

The students are asked to:


a. identify the school-based assessments implemented in the
respective year/form that they are assigned to.
b. evaluate the test specifications of these assessments.
c. examine the evaluation criteria of these assessments.
d. obtain samples of the school-based assessments.
e. determine how standardization is maintained (within the
school boundaries, within the state (Perak) and within the
nation)
The students are then asked to share the information and
experience that they have gained from schools by doing a short
presentations.
The students are also required to write a report of their findings.
Reports may include:
a. Introduction
i. Year/Form that they are assigned to
ii. The teacher(s) interviewed
iii. The processes involved
iv. The journey to school

The students will be divided into groups of 4. The groups will be


determined by the lecturer.
In groups, the students are required to construct their own Test
Specifications.
Each group will choose a language skill Reading, Writing,
Listening& Speaking and construct the Test Specifications
based on the skill chosen.
Test Specifications should include the followings:
a. The tests purpose
b. Description of the test taker
c. Test level
d. Construct (theoretical framework for test)
e. Description of suitable language course or textbook
f. Number of sections/papers
g. Time for each section/paper
h. Weighting for each section/paper
i. Target language situation
j. Text-types
k. Text length
l. Language skills to be tested
m. Language elements to be tested
n. Test tasks
o. Test methods
p. Rubrics
q. Criteria for marking
r. Descriptions of typical performance at each level
s. Description of what candidates at each level can do in the
real world.
t. Sample papers
u. Sample of students performance on tasks
Based on the Test Specifications that they have constructed, the
students are required to construct their own test items based on
their given skill.
Once the items have been constructed, the students are
required to pre-test their test items on a set of students
The students will analyse the results of the pre-test using the
statistical description that they have learned.
In this assignment, the students are required to produce a report
comprising:
a. Test Specifications
b. The test items constructed
c. The justifications for each test item that they constructed.
d. Conduct a pre-test.
e. Analyse the results of the pre-test.
f. Discuss the pre-test results. They need to use statistical
analysis to interpret pre-test results.
