Sport and Fitness, FLA Class Week-7,

Stephen Metcalfe, M.A

Most smokers take up the habit in their

mid teens, well before the legal age for
purchasing them.

Many people use cigarettes because of peer

influence. Peer influence is the effect
people your own age have on your
thoughts and actions.

Cigarettes
contain over

4000
poisonous
chemicals
At least 50 are
known
carcinogens
(cause cancer in
humans) and
many are
poisonous.

Shisha smoking is a way

of smoking tobacco,
sometimes
mixed with fruit or
molasses sugar, through
a bowl, hose or tube.
The World Health Organization warned that a
one-hour shisha session can be as harmful as
smoking 100 cigarettes

Non-smokers who breathe in secondhand smoke

take in nicotine and other toxic chemicals just

like smokers do. The more secondhand smoke
you are exposed to, the higher the level of these
harmful chemicals in your body.
Secondhand smoke causes many of the same

diseases as direct smoking, including

cardiovascular disease, lung cancer, and
respiratory diseases

Alcohol is a depressant, which

means it slows the function of
the central nervous system.
When people drink alcohol, it's
absorbed into their bloodstream.
From there, it affects the central
nervous system (the brain and
spinal cord), which controls
virtually all body functions

Alcohol Consumption Growing

Concern Among Jakarta Youth
Jakarta Globe, 10 September 2012

Indonesians have consumed alcohol for

centuries. Yet these days, young people drink
far more openly compared to how it was in a
the last decade or two. People's values, habits
and lifestyles have definitely changed.

Neurological Problems -- Alcohol slows down the

central nervous system, impairing vision, reaction

time, and coordination.
Cardiovascular Problems -- Long-term drinking

causes tissue damage and increases the risk for

high blood pressure, heart rhythm disorders,
heart muscle disorders, stroke, and the
development of cancers and liver disease

Gastrointestinal Problems It affects the function of

the stomach and kidneys, which can result in nausea,

vomiting, and dehydration.
Psychiatric Problems (depression, anxiety, and suicide) &

Social problems (unemployment, lost productivity, and

family problems)

Sexual Organ Problems
