History of education has four different types

The history of education in the United States, or foundations of education

covers the trends in educational philosophy, policy, institutions, as well as
formal and informal learning in America from the 17th century to the early
21st century.
The second period of education began with the American Revolution.
Most children grew up on farms or in small towns and expected their adult
lives to be much like that of their parents. Schools were seen as a vehicle
for making a better society. Education was used to promote the new
nations ideas of freedom and liberty. Religion played less of a role in
education. They focused on teaching kids agriculture, business, and
shipping. Benjamin Franklin began the first public library. He started a
secondary school, or academy, in Philadelphia that offered a broad range
of subjects. Because of Benjamin's' influence, schools to this day teach
good citizenship. Jefferson believed that education was the key to making
the newly formed democracy a success. Jefferson wanted to make sure
elementary schools were available without cost. During the America's Early
National Period, teachers continued to be positive models of good
citizenship for their students. Teachers taught that citizenship involved
obeying laws and rules and respecting authority. Educational opportunities
remained limited, especially in less populated areas. Schools continued to
teach the basics of reading, writing, and math, along with Christian
principles. Progressive period in the beginning of this period children work
in factories with their parents. Limiting educational opportunities, their work
hours were long.In the progressive era there were laws passed to limit the
number of hours children could work in factories.By 1920, all states had
laws that required children to attend elementary school. When children
finally had the chance to get education, most schools were highly
segregated, therefore some students didn't get as much education as
others. African American children had to attend a separate public school,
that received less funding, which means they didn't get all the supplies other
schools did. African american teachers could only work in african american

schools which paid significantly less than the white schools. Many teachers
were tired of working with these conditions and declared that there must be
a change. A result of this was the 1st teachers' labor union was formed to
protect the working rights of teachers.
European migration which later became the united states began in the
seventeenth century. Things that motivated europeans to come to new land
was seeking economic opportunities and many were looking for greater
religious freedom. Others were motivated by the idea that they could
produce a better society.
