Students will be able to identify and perform various activities that promote a healthy
lifestyle (Line drills, stretches, pushups, etc.)
Students will cooperate with teammates to accomplish a goal.
Students will combine dribbling, passing, and shooting to play competitive basketball
games.

NASPE STANDARDS
NASPE Standard 1 - The physically literate individual demonstrates competency in a
variety of motor skills and movement patterns.
NASPE Standard 2 - The physically literate individual applies knowledge of concepts,
principles, strategies and tactics related to movement and performance.
RATIONALE: The students need to be able to combine all the skills previously learned and
apply them to live-basketball situations.
PREREQUISITE KNOWLEDGE:
The students need to know how to perform the line drills that they were previously taught in
class (lunges, backpedal, high knees, knee pulls, carry-overs A-skips.)
The students need to know proper dribbling, passing, and shooting techniques.

ANTICPATORY SET: Today we will continue our basketball unit by applying all of our
learned skills to a game situation,
MANAGEMENT FRAMEWORK (60 minutes)
Introductory Activity: 8-10 minutes

Fitness Activity: 2-5 minutes


Lesson Focus: 40 minutes
Closing Activity: 2-5 minutes

2-4 basketballs

ADAPTATIONS FOR SPECIAL NEEDS:
There are several students with social anxiety in the class. They will be teamed with students
that I feel will make them most comfortable.
INTEGRATION WITH OTHER DISCIPLINES:

Physics can be incorporated into the lesson by describing the physics of shooting, dribbling, and
passing a basketball.
DIVERSITY:
Race/Ethnicity: When put into teams, students will be integrated with students of other
ethnicitites.
Gender: Males and Females will be split up as equally as possible when put into teams.
Social Class: Students of all social classes are grouped together and interact with each other
when playing.
Ability: Students will be put into teams so each team has similar ability.
CONTENT SEQUENCE OF MATERIAL:
Handout with teams listed on them.
Introductory Activity Line Drills/Stretching (8-10 minutes)

Lunges (2 each leg then jog)

Knee pulls (2 each knee then jog)

High-knees (To volleyball line then jog)

Backpedal (To half-court then jog)

Carry-overs (Full-court)

A-Skips (Half-court then jog)

Mario line drill

Right-Right, Left-Left Line Drill

10 build-ups

Have the class leaders lead the stretches.

Fitness Activity Push-ups (3-5 minutes)

Push-ups (Set of 7,10,12)

Lesson Focus Basketball games- 40 minutes

Describe the rules of basketball (traveling, out-of-bounds, fouls, etc.)


Put the class in teams that I made up before the class period.
Explain the tournament style format used for the class. (play to 15 by ones and twos,
winners move on to championship game, losers play in consolation game.
Allow the teams to play full court games simultaneously on the side rims in the
gymnasium.
I will be watching the games and reffing them with the assistance of Mr. Love.

Closing Activity Static stretch (2-5 minutes)


EXTENDED ACTIVITIES:
If Lesson Finishes Early
Weather permitting: Allow the class to do team activities on the football field (football, soccer,
volleyball.) If inclimate weather, do team activities in the gymnasium.

ASSESSMENT OF LESSON
The students will be assessed by the effort they give when playing the game.
