ORDINANCES FOR CERTIFICATE COURSE/

DIPLOMA/ADVANCEDDIPLOMA COURSE IN AGRO-SERVICES


(ADD-ON-COURSE)
The Certificate Course/Diploma/Advanced Diploma Course in Agro-services, Career
Oriented Programme of U.G.C. 2003-04 introduced as Add-on-Course at First Degree Level
in B.A./ B.Sc will be covered under following ordinances.
1.

The admission/examination shall be opened to any candidate who has passed


10+2 examination with at least 45% marks in aggregate in science/arts.

2.

The candidate after passing examination will be awarded a separate Certificate /


Diploma/Advanced Diploma in Agro-services in addition to his/her regular
degree/Detailed Marks Card of B.A./B.Sc.

3.

The supplementary examination shall be held in September or as fixed by the


Academic Council. This examination shall be open to candidates who have been
declared reappear in Certificate Course/ Diploma/Advanced Diploma Course.

4.

The candidate who doesnt pass in the supplementary examination will be given
another chance to appear in above said course along with forthcoming annual
examination.

5.

A candidate who passed the course in the supplementary examination or in the


third chance in annual examination can appear alongside in next subsequent
examination of above said course.

6.

The candidate who is unable to pass the course in three given chances, will not be
allowed to continue the above said course.

7.

Every candidate will be required to attend minimum of 75% lectures/periods


delivered to that class.

8.

The candidate must obtain 35% of the total marks in theory and practical
separately to pass the course.

9.

The candidate must have obtained in House Examination at least 25% marks in
the subject.

10.

Candidates will be offered English/Punjabi as the medium of Instructions/


Examination.

Lectures to be delivered: 50
(Each of 45 minutes duration)
Periods/week: 3
Maximum Marks: 60
Pass Marks: 35% of the total marks.

Time Allowed: 3 Hours

INSTRUCTIONS TO THE PAPER SETTER


Paper should be divided into five Sections A, B, C, D & E. Section A, B, C & D shall
have two questions each, students must attempt at least one question from each part. Fifth
Section E shall have 10 short-answer type questions of two marks each covering the entire
syllabus. Students will attempt all questions of Section E. Questions of Section A, B, C & D
will carry 10 marks each. The answers of short questions pertaining to Section E should be
given in 2-3 lines.
INSTRUCTIONS TO THE CANDIDATES
Candidates are required to attempt one question each form the Sections A, B, C & D
of the question paper and the entire Section E.

Meaning, scope and importance of Agro-services in India. Cultural and economic
aspect of agro-services with respect to the state of Punjab.
Types of services required for the improvement of existing agricultural practices
in order to secure economic sustainability. Elementary knowledge about
Sericulture, Apiculture, Fishery, Poultry, Dairy, Mushroom farming, Agro-forestry,
Social forestry and Organic farming.
Section-B

Soil profile, composition, classification and physical properties of soils, study of


soil maps with respect to Punjab.
Fertility status of soils, soil deficiency with respect to macro and micronutrient
components.
Section-C

Water sources for agriculture and their availability; natural water sources, rain
water harvesting and conservation.
Water irrigation systems in India with particular reference to surface irrigation,
sub-soil irrigation and drip irrigation.

Section-D

Fertilizers, their role in soil fertility and crop yield; Inorganic and organic
fertilizers, Bio-fertilizers, Green manure, Farm-yard manure, Vermiculture.
Pollution of soil, surface and ground water due to over use of fertilizers and
pesticides and remedial measures.

Time Allowed: 3 Hours

There will be five questions of 5 marks each in the practical paper out of 1 to 5
components of the syllabus given below:
1. Analysis of different types of soils of Punjab for the presence of N 2, K, P, etc. by soil
analysis kit.
2. Testing of pH and water holding capacity of different types of soils.
3. Seed viability test by using Tetra-zolium chloride method.
4. Determination of moisture contents of seeds of wheat, rice, Gram and Maize.
5. Analysis of different types of water samples for pH, total solids and the presence of
microbes by water testing kit.
6.

Project work on Techniques of Mushroom cultivation/organic farming


/apiculture /Fish faming/Vermiculture.

Study of important diseases in case of surgarcane and cotton.

(honey, bee-wax and royal-jelly); economics of bee keeping and marketing.

Mushroom cultivation species cultivated, techniques and economics of


mushroom cultivation and marketing.

Dairy farming with particular reference to White revolution quality milk


production, preparation of milk products, yoghurt, cheese, ghee; economics of
dairy establishment and marketing.
Agrifinance sources of finance, formulation of project proposals for financial
assistance and various loan schemes for farmers of Punjab. Crop insurance.
