METERING INDIA 2017 SEMINAR

IEEMA Meter division proudly announces
the 7th METERING INDIA seminar.
METERING INDIA is the benchmark event
of the Indian Energy Metering Industry.
METERING INDIA, powered by IEEMA, is
a biennial event organized in collaboration
with
various stakeholders in the
electricity metering eco-system. In the
past decade, this event has not only
offered a platform to express diverse
perspectives but also served to help power
sector utilities address the challenges and
issues associated with the absorption of
new technologies.

usual' scenario of a few years back has

been reinvented by smart devices. The
transparency and trust challenges are
being answered through technology in
every sector. Our lives are flooded with
information. The awareness related to
resource conservation in every form has
taken over our lives like never before. At
this juncture, it is imperative for us to take
a stock of smartness for sustainability.
'Metering India 2017... Towards Smart
and Sustainable Utilities' targets to
explore the use of ICT to make Indian
power utilities more sustainable.

Since 2004, more than 1,700 delegates

representing various stakeholder groups
have participated in METERING INDIA
Seminars. The last edition was attended by
over 400 participants representing more
than 123 organizations comprising
Utilities, Consultants, Franchisees,
Institutions, Testing Labs, System
Integrators, Regulators, Solution
providers and Manufacturers.

This seminar welcomes global thought

processes on making Indian utilities
sustainable through the deployment of
smart technology. Simple and smart
business process optimizations,
stakeholder involvement and awareness,
etc.

Indian power distribution utilities have

been recognized as the weakest link in
providing 24x7 power for all as they suffer
from huge accumulated losses of around
Rs 3.8 Lakh crore (March 2015). An average
tariff increase of 8% in the last five years
has not been effective in improving the
situation of unsustainable losses, as the
utilities had entered into a vicious cycle of
short-term debts to cover operating
expenses. The problem assumed such

enhancement, last mile connectivity,
demand side management, smart devices
and information technology to showcase
their latest trends contributing towards
sustainability.

METERING INDIA 2017 aims to act as a

confluence for all the themes around
smart metering like communication
technologies, demand-side management,
the renewed role of IT infra, sustainable
business processes etc. to make the power
distribution utilities sustainable. Metering
is the most important aspect of the power
distribution system as it is the focal point
to generate revenues. With the advent of
distributed generation the role of
electricity consumers is also changing
they are not just passive stake-holders but
an important link in the power delivery
system. Metering being the window of
interaction between the consumers and
utilities is a vital trust building entity.
Trust and transparency are the
foundations of a sustainable business
environment.

The seminar also aims on voicing the

opinions on global best practices in
contract management, envisaging
programs as value delivery tools by
breaking the silos, gaps in standards and
regulations and expectations from various
stake-holders.

This seminar offers a platform for

technologies in metering, renewable

The metering industry in India has

matured since its inception five decades
ago and is pledged to hand-hold the
utilities in this hour of crisis. In
partnership with all the stakeholders, the
metering industry is poised to take on this
challenging journey of making the Indian
utilities smart and sustainable.
We aim to gather a cross-section of
knowledge from stake-holders under a
single umbrella and channelize all the
efforts in the direction of building a
sustainable and inclusive future that is
beneficial for all.
