Preface
One of the major forestry activities in Bangladesh is plantation establishment
and management of forest tree species, design area , the road sides and
highways, islands and coastal embankments and on the newly formed areas
along the coast . To ensure the Success of this huge and very important
program, it would require the service of professional who shall efficiently
prepare plans and efficiently carryout activities related to development of
forest plantation.

To achieve practical knowledge, planting of trees, their nursing and

systematic management and keeping all the records in a word maintaining a
plantation journal is necessary.

Introduction
Plantation means forest crops raised artificially by sowing or planting.
According to our syllabus , each student of this institute has to plant

seedlings when they are in first semester , at the site directed to them by the
honorable class semester , and after that every semester we have to
measure and monitor our plantation , So in our fourth semester as per
requirement we monitored our plantation site . all the information regarding
the species and experiences gathered from the monitoring activities are
described in this report .

Objectives

The aim of the plantation journal is to store the yearly records of

different operations which will be helpful taking care , determining the
annual increment , diseases , and finally for plantation planning and
future study

To present the soil status of the site.

To show the present status of the plantation

Remarking the problem and problem solutions.

To include details about ecological and silvicultural characteristics of
planted species

Objectives of the plantation

To create an insurance for CU in the long run

To provide aesthetic beauty
To protect the hilly lands from landslides
To conserve biodiversity
To maintain ecological balance

Location of the Site

The location site is behind the administrative building of IFESCU.

Seedling Source
Locally distributed by IFESCU nursery.

Characteristics of the site

Type of soil : Sandy clay
Color : Yellowish brown
Topography : Hilly
Aspect : East to west
Slope : Medium in valley

Drainage : Well drainage area due to sloppiness

Climate : Tropical monsoon climate characterized by
hot summer and dry winter
Rainfall : 250cm -300cm per year which takes place
mostly between June and September
Temperature : Average annual temperature vary from
25C - 35C

Quality of seedling:
The seedling quality was relatively good enough.

Silvicultural Operation:

Weeding: Removing weeds beside the plants, helps to increase the growth of
the plant species.Last weeding was done in 26 th December 2015.
Pruning: It was done to remove the bad branches of plant. Last pruning was
done in 26th December 2015.
Mulching: It is the placement of cutting grasses around the base of the tree
when weeding is done. The mulch will conserve moisture and when
decomposed will at fertility to the soil.

Measurement:
Measurement of height and diameter of each seedling was taken in every
cultural practice.

Presents status:
All the species are still alive and healthy.

Constrains and difficulties:

The plantation site has some difficulties. The major problems I have encountered
are as follow

Lack of fencing.
Local people interference and grazing.

Solutions

Weeding and mulching regularly.

All the winter season the soil become dry, there should have a process of
watering the seedlings.
A boundary should be set up around the plantation area.

Conclusion:
Plantation journal helps to enrich ones practical knowledge in tree planting and
management. Its very important for the students of IFESCU to develop professional
skills.
